Your insurance company will claim from the other party's insurance, give them a call it's what you've paid for.

From my experience even if it isn't your fault you should still ring up your insurance company, explain what happen and provide them with the details of the person who was at fault. They will deal with it and claim any costs for the repair. I didnt have to pay my access either and it didn't affect my NCD even tho i didnt pay the protection of it.

You have to inform your ins company if you've been involved in an accident regardless of fault. They will sort it out with the other company.

"Thank you Im so confused x"

Call your insurers, explain to them what has happened, they'll want the other party's details then will negotiate with them to settle your claim. Your policy and ncd won't be affected because there is no claim being made against you but next year's renewal/quote will increase because you'll have a no fault claim registered against you for the next 5yrs (that's all on the assumption you're squeaky clean and it's 100% the other party).

Technically you have to report any accident even if it was a bump with no one else involved and your paying for the repair yourself you still have to inform your insurer

This. Working in the industry you need to report it regardless of blame

You need to report it to your own company

If you have fully comp insurance than your company can deal with repairs then claim it back and / or

They need to report it too own insurer. If he admits liability then his insurers can deal with your repairs but you still need to report to your own insurers

Our car got hit a while back (while parked). The bloke offered to pay the costs himself and I was considering it until his arsey wife made a snotty comment about it being a stupid place to park.

Subsequently informed my insurer. They sorted everything - were really good.

This is correct, my son's car got hit by a lorry last month (it wasn't his fault) and he exchange details with the other driver and liaised with his insurance straight away. It was all sorted without any hassle, he didn't have to pay any excess and it did not affect his NCB.

Reporting to your insurance company is the right thing to do however it does effect your premiums in the future even though it wasn't your fault. I've just found this out !!

No, there are three. If you go back to them via your green arrow and click the "report" button, the mods will remove the other two.

I swap every year and have protected NCD. My premium didn't increase.

On a different note it annoys me that I only get 9 years NCD when it should be over double that

You are obliged to report any incidents to your insurance company, whether you are at fault or not.
