Before you do... See if "Active Together" is available in your area. It's a government initiative and anyone who is either inactive or wants to improve their health/fitness (so everyone, then!) can join.I think you have to have not used a gym in the last 6-12 months. Just Google.
With it, you get 3 months free membership to your local council gyms; I have a newly built one which is quite snazzy! Membership includes unlimited use of the gym, classes and swimming pools. (Access to courts at weekends.) Following the first 3 months, you can get a further three months half price which for me is around £50 for the 1/4.
Active Together also do their own classes separate to gym. In my area that includes Nordic Walking, trampolining, archery, salsa, Bollywood, badminton, rounders etc.
Finally, you can have FREE nutritional support, either 1-1 or in a group.
I'm also using a mobile app. "My fitness Pal" which is working well for me. You enter weight, current activity level, age and how much you want to lose per weekend it calculates your calorie aim for the da. In addition, it breaks down the nutritional info (macros etc as mentioned above) so you can see how you best need to optimise your diet- sugar in coffee etc; has a barcode scanner for a LOT of products (careful re weights and quantities though!) and you can input your exercise- just a nice little reward for having done some graft!
General:
1. BALANCED diet. Try to cut out the take aways if you can or at least make healthy choices- chow mien, chicken instead of beef, avoid fried, etc.
2. Mix cardio and strength.
3. I did no exercise and had a poor diet. Due to a knee injuryI need to avoid impact. Swimming generally is a great all over body workout and you can easily burn 800 kcal's an hour!
I'm absolutely certain I don't look it, but I picture myself gliding through the water with every stroke, like a lickle mermaid! My change in energy levels is massive; I've been ill with flu for a bit and actually missed not being able to swim. Who'd have thought it?!
PM me whenever you like, if you want to. Please put Weightloss in the message title so you don't get lost in the mail.
Good luck!
