I've been to Riviera Maya which was lovely. Gorgeous beach resort. I wish I had explored more and visited Cancun etc though.

Mexico City is gorgeous in terms of architecture, culture, etc... But don't carry too much cash or valuables on you and stick to the main squares. We had a lot of "taxis" approaching us which definitely were not taxis. You have to have your wits about you.
