There and to the left a bit

"Every decade has great music and every decade has its fair share of dross. "

You are so right...I formed my musical tastes in the late 70s/early 80s so grew up with Punk/New Wave/Two Tone and look back on that era fondly...however as recent TOTP re-runs for that era have shown, for every punk classic there were at least 2 or 3 sheers dross hits by the Nolans, St Winifreds School Choir, Boney M et al!!

There's some great stuff out there but the way we consume music has changed. Generations now have never really listened to albums.

Its so easy to put stuff out there now it just takes a bit more sifting to what you like.

Let me remind you this was the decade that Simon F'in Cowell joined the pop charts. zig and Xag had a hit.

Although I agree. The charts were massive and the acts were plenty.

Lots of good, even more were superstars.

But there were some shite.

Boom boom boom, let me hear you say hey o,? Ffs

White Stripes (formed in 97 but their best stuff was in the 2000s)

The Strokes

Biffy Clyro

Arcade Fire

Kings of Leon

Arctic Monkeys

Gaslight Anthem

Those are a few from my taste but there's been hundreds of innovative and just plain great music across all genres that has been created since 2000 but we generally all start to not take as much notice as we age. 10 years ago I knew all the new bands coming through but now I just don't have the time to notice.

The Arctic Monkeys

Arcade Fire

Royal Blood

Wild Beasts

Miles Kane

Jake Bugg

Hot Chip

Maximo Park

The Magic Numbers

Alt - J

Young Knives

Jamie T

Vampire Weekend

To name just a few.

The music industry has been overtaken by media crazed, sponsored and often untalented individuals who take over the music channels with their drivel which has been written by about 20 people but if you look again you can still find talent, workmanship and music that means something.

Various music from each decade from the 70's holds memories for me. Songs that relate to situations good and bad and some songs that give me memories of places I have been and people I have met. (Mr)

I like a lot of new music.

The 90s was full of wankers who took themselves very seriously and drained the enjoyment of music.

I like lots of 00 and 10 music. But I like mainly rock. So it depends what sort of music you like. Radiohead are still going strong. Since the 90s. I find them amazing.

Yoy easily tell when a song was made in the 50's through to the 90's. For the most part there is a particular sound that puts that song in that decade.

However from 2000 onwards I can't tell the difference in any song over the last 16 years.
