I don't believe in a religious concept of a God. The bible (in it's many guises) is a work of fiction wrote by a couple of monks, who had nothing better to do with their time (and had probably just eaten some strange mushrooms they found growing in the herb plot).

I do however believe in life after death. Our bodies may die, but our spirit/essence/being can not die.

I like to think theres somthing after this life . But i think religion come to give us rules to live with and values .. Some need to think theres a god as it give them hope in a after life a Heven ...... Myself i am more spiritual as i have had a bit of a insight as seen a spirt ... and some with say no way ... I know what i did see .. and i was not dreaming and others in house that night see some of what i did too ..... and i told him to go away and to this day i wish i had not .... been thinking i should maybe look into all this but it do scare me a little ....... i am not mad i am nomal , lol

i was baptised roman catholic. Brought up as a roman catholic. Roman catholic primary and secondary schools so i have turned out, as many roman catholics have, an athiest.

I believe god is the personification of the good inherent within ourselves, and likewise the devil.

Religion as sold to the masses is the same as mc donalds. Ok if you can't do it for yourself but not really what you need.

pretty similar upbringing to Reabo, Irish Catholic and Welsh Presbyterian parents so the former was the path 'chosen for me'

by 11 i was kicked out of the choir and had been caned in front of my class for daring to press the issue of wanting an explanation how a 'virgin' could give birth. bloody nuns!

In my teens i was following the ministry path and was accepted fa the ministry training

It was only then that i stared asking questions of my peers that they could not satisfactory answer

I am now a complete non believer and realise just how many get sucked into believing and why it happens

As i always say each ta their own but personally now i just believe in myself instead xx

I find this an interesting topic for discussion. Whilst I find no comfort at all in a belief system based upon some deity nobody has ever seen I do recognise the important role that organised religion has in the world.

Religion has been the catalyst for so many wars and a lot of the world's problem, sure, I admit that, but it has also brought stability and order where, without it, there would have been complete chaos.

Imagine, if you will, a world where nobody had ever heard of the Ten Commandments and adhered to none of them. Where one man could covet what you have and kill you to obtain it without a shred of guilt. Religion prevents that in the main and 99.9% of humans adopt their moral code from teachings derived from religious doctrine. Obviously some humans kill without remorse but that's very few in the wider scheme of things and beyond the scope of what we're discussing here.

I also believe that a world with only one religion would be a very dangerous place for the simple reason that it would have a monopoly on morality and anyone found not to be a 'believer' would suffer because of it. All communities, however small or large, need competition to keep them in check, a negative versus the positive if you like.

I accept religion plays a part in my life whether I want it to or not, but I retain the choice to believe in God or not, and that's a leap of faith too far for me.

I didnt, until I nearly drowned in a boating accident in 2008, it was only Gods will, a passing boat seen us in trouble and came to our rescue, a toss of a coin and he would not have seen us sinking, so yes it does make me wonder.

does nobody see the correlation between the decline of religion in todays society and the serious drop in community values and respect for humanity?

Although personally i don't believe i think it is an essential teaching aid for teaching young minds morals, principles and how to live in a large community, or society.

Also religion has never caused a war, but it has been used as an excuse by men to cause a war. If this is not the case then why is it that not all muslims are killing christians? ( used for illustration purposes only, am not implying anything . Political correctness rules.) Religion, like anything else can be manipulated by extremists and fanatics for their own ends

Nope, we are both Atheists. religion is a means of control. It was one thing for a king or some other ruler to ry and tell people waht to do. Its another if he has some devine being giving him the power to do it. And i would place the bible along side King Arthur, Robin Hood and other such stories. All based on real times and around real events and people, and then woven into a story for the masses.

As for the Christian religion, how is it they can't decide when he was nailed to a cross and they can't get his date of birth right.

No wars have ever been waged in the name of Atheists, but plenty of wars and terror have been carried out in the name of peace loving religions.

yes I have often prayed for different reasons

yes used to be a church goer but did not agree with the wine and cheese thing

yes brought up my kids to understand what faith is and to respect all of them and also to know how to pray. Their choice after that.

well for a sunday rant i will answer, no I dont believe in "GOD"-theres a principle thats called the anthropic principle from quantum physics theorists, basically it means we shape the world around us as conscious beings and in fact the universe would not exist without us.Sounds like a paradox of course as the universe is said to be billions of years old, but we are but a spec within it-it would be foolish to suggest "life as we know it" not to exist elsewhere for a much longer period.

Id hate to think that nothing really matters in the grand scale of things, it would be too easy to become uncaring and psychopathic knowing your actions result in no consequence, yet I cant accept things are planned out for us, because then its really not your fault at whatever you do...

If "GOD" does exist its the furthest thing imaginable to us I would say...maybe WE are the micro-organisms in its gut or the neurons in its brain.

when it comes down to it, we really dont know what we are, as all of our supposed knowledge comes from such a small source of something unimaginably supermassive.

theres plenty of popular science books, new scientist magazines thats deal with the god issues,creation issues etc, that are pretty easy to read, I'm really shit at mathematics but understand alot of whats being said!- many of these scientists such as stephen hawking etc, actually grew up on star trek!!!

avoid many creationist bible-belt bashing mobs tho!

Was born into the c of e religion simply because they did that then. My dad was an atheist but respectful and obviously attended weddings and funerals.

I have to admit that i joined everything going as a kid just to go along to the picnics etc.

As ive grown my own beliefs are mixed to the point of yes, praying that things turn out ok and hoping for better outcomes to family illnesses.

My son i had blessed but not christened as i wanted him to be tolerant of all religions and make his own mind up.

I dont like the indoctrination of kids into any religions , he believed in darwins theory so decided religion wasnt for him. Yet he did become knowledgable and very respectful towards those who chose to believe .

If anything i like the buddest mantra and that what you do in life and how you live your life gives its own rewards

I have just given this some serious thought for a couple of minutes. I can honestly say when my dad was diagnosed with an incurable degenerative condition in his brain, when my mum was told she had days to live and when my brother sustained brain damage and lay in a coma... I did not pray to god.

I can understand how it may give some people hope, but I am far too practical to rely on hope.

It did make me wonder if some people have substituted the internet for the comfort some attain from prayer. After all on the internet at least they might get a reply “awwww big hugs”

There is an old saying. 'There are no Ateists in foxholes'. I have been in plenty of foxholes, and been in plenty of dangerous situations. And i can honestly say i have never turned to some devine being, or called out to god. This saying may have been true many years ago, but not today when we question more what we are told and are much more educated.

You need humanity.

What i find difficult is lots of things ive done or wanted to do seem to be based round believing in god. By this i mean the only way i could or would be able to do these things is via the church. Everyone one of us has the ability to be a good human being or a bad human being. I find it difficult that people assume your religious if you want to do certain things.

Example, you try finding a non religious retreat its bloody difficult
