Is beauty in the eye of the beholder? Or is it just a cliche?

I was going to go for a nonsensical approach but I've decided to approach this with a tad more sensibility than that. Yes, OP, beauty is in the eye of the beholder - evidently in media, daily people watching and even on FAB. Different people find different things beautiful. I've been with quite a few traditionally accepted 'beautiful' people and they have found me to be so (even though that's wholly inaccurate).

I find brains more beautiful then what's on the outside.

Beauty is only skin deep... ugly goes right to the bone!

sometimes think beauty is in the eye of the beerholder

have met some people who many would consider beautifull over the last few years who had all the worst traits of human beings you could ever meet

have also met some people whom beauty shines through old infirm disfigured and disabled and they have beautifull souls

we all have our own views on beauty dont let others define your view and go with your instincts

No its not a cliche, Angelina jolie is attractive to most people but she doesnt do anything for me. She is attractive but not to me. Penelope keith is quite average but i find her attractive.

Where the streets have no name

Pure physical attractiveness, male or female, obeys in most of cases to symmetry and certain proportions and features.

However, those aspects combine with our context, behaviour and status. The whole picture makies us attractive or not, depending on the watcher.

But you all Ladies, take away whatever man's breath...

For me yes some of the people I've fancied over the years bloody hell but once they won me over with their dazzling personalities they turned into sex gods.

I can find somebody I meet beautiful. I get to know them and if they are ugly inside, I will see them as ugly on the outside and I wonder how I ever found them beautiful. Then I also do the opposite. I meet somebody not so attractive. They turn out to be a warm, lovely and kind person and I start to find them very attractive.

Our concepts of beauty are so tied into our pasts, likes, dislikes, own personalities etc. that finding visual beauty in others is often more a reflection/projection of our own selves. Which means it is entirely in the eye of the beholder. Once that initial phase is over a loved face becomes beautiful when it wasn't at first and the converse is true.
