Yes, they wanted to move away from "sadvertising".

Cue stories about urban fox attacks in the coming weeks to spike their guns

Yeah you make a good point,my daughter was saying she's looking forward to xmas and I said we should alway's bs aware of how lucky we are. Not everyone wakes up to someone giving them a kiss and wishing them merry xmas, not everyone wakes up in a warm bed with presents from loved one's. It's easy to forget that when we're in our own bubble.

I'm probably not allowed to post a direct link, but Google "Buster and friends John Lewis" for a list of the 26 items for sale specifically linked to this advert

does going gushy over a television advert stop people helping those on the streets. Does it stop them helping with food banks, donating coats or doing hands on. No.

So get of your high horse telling people to get a fucking grip.

The land of grey peas and bacon

You can donate parcels to homeless shelters and refuges etc if you want to do something or help in a soup kitchen over Christmas...it's ok to get a bit gushy over an advert...I've been Street homeless and in some dire places over Christmas but I never resented those having a joyful Christmas

How can a video with some cute animals on a trampoline invoke some of these posts?

Come on people, let's at least try to be nice!

It inspired me to go into my local farmers merchant, which was packed with farmers at the time. When I finally got to the front of the queue and asked for 2 large bags of Badger and Fox food , they threw me out - I guess they'd sold out !

No, it's, it says on the instructions, for safety, only to be used by one at a time. Badgers and foxes are very safety conscious, they would have waited their turn. Hedgehogs and squirrels are crazy fuckers, they'd go on together.

Yeah, I've got to admit, my brother died a couple of years ago on Christmas day from a really traumatic head injury a few days before.

On hearing a Christmas song yesterday while out shopping in town I welled up. Just the way it is. Christmas reminds me of what I lost so recently.

I generally think people who cry at adverts need to have a word with themselves. This one is canny though, it's not a tearjerker.

Probably something to do with depression or it hits a nerve. I tend to go awwww at soppy things, I haven't cried yet.

If it depression or something hitting a nerve is the reason why they're crying, then they're not really crying about the advert. ive, been street homeless, locked up in a nuthouse over christmas when i had an 8 year old child. Sat and watched my dad in a coma christmas day who then died new years day. So if i want to find a christmas advert tearful cause its sad then people can think what they damn well please.

Yeah, I've got to admit, my brother died a couple of years ago on Christmas day from a really traumatic head injury a few days before.

On hearing a Christmas song yesterday while out shopping in town I welled up. Just the way it is. Christmas reminds me of what I lost so recently."

Christmas time can be hard for some, shame some can't understand that x

The greatest masterstroke that john Lewis could pull would be to not have any advert at all. The entire advertising budget saved (donated to homeless charities) and priceless free advertising from the outpouring of public grief that would follow, then everyone who doesn't give two shits over a fucking advert could get on with things without the whole country getting excited over a fucking advert.

Personally I'm just amazed that another of my threads has almost made it past the halfway mark. The only other time that's happened was when I was discussing the politics of UKIP to the tune of Old MacDonald.

The fox puts his head down, the hedgehog climbs on his nose and gets lifted onto the trampoline. Very much a Mary, Mungo and Midge kind of relationship. Also, "Christmas magic" is always an acceptable answer.

A man wouldn't be able to put together a trampoline on his own.

Badgers are afraid of heights.

No, it's, it says on the instructions, for safety, only to be used by one at a time. Badgers and foxes are very safety conscious, they would have waited their turn. Hedgehogs and squirrels are crazy fuckers, they'd go on together.

Is that it?"

No, hedgehogs are safely conscious too. Haven't you seen the green cross code advert?

My family questioned why the daughter didn't get on the trampoline with the dog. Perhaps the reading of the ad should be that it was a present for the dog.

The stuffed animal toys that go with the ad are linked to The Wildlife Trust who get 10% of the profits. The rest of the profits go to the partnership (staff).

How ignorant and rude firstly it's against the law I believe for a person of under 16 to live on the streets and I suggest if you have seen a child you call social services.

Throwing then people are on the streets comment in is ridiculess to be honest it's no different to older folks being forgotten in homes etc (check out the German Xmas ad with the old chap sorting a fake funeral so his family come home).

Sadly people are on the streets and old folks forgotten but for 3 mins today that advert gave me a little Xmas cheer and made me well up.

" I was emotional because of A. The song B. The emotive content reminding me of Christmas and it being a time for family which I have none!! "

I'm probably not the person to start it, and it may be too early, but wasn't there a thread last year for people who are alone at Christmas to get together just for the day? I couldn't find it, but I'll look more later. There are also plenty of places where people can volunteer to help, thereby spreading the true meaning of Christmas.

I too have spent a Christmas alone. (though I wasted mine weeping along to Terms of Endearment )

hope it doesnt spoil it for our grandaughter.

I wonder, can we , is there a clainm to be made for spoiling innocent kids christmas'

Any good lawyers out there. "

I think you just need to tell her "It's not real sweetheart it's just an advert,Santa is very busy this time of year as you can imagine,so he's got the daddy to set the trampoline up for him"

Enjoy.

Mr ddc

I didn't like the advert

Why are people crying over a trampoline

Pathetic

It triggered an emotion for me, that song is personal and it's a very hard time for me Christmas that's why I cried. And if I'm pathetic then forgive me, I'll try harder to stop calling myself pathetic every day

It's not even Xmas yet

Don't understand why everyone is crying over some stuffed animals

I think you misunderstood what I meant. Christmas is an emotive time for some people and this advert was a trigger to my emotions I wasn't crying over a stuffed animal I was emotional because of A. The song B. The emotive content reminding me of Christmas and it being a time for family which I have none!! Sorry if that is hard for you to understand

It doesnt take much working out that you werent crying over a stuffed animal, its a sad song, and its sad because foxes get hunted and killed and badgers are all being killed because they are said to give cattle TB."

I was replying to somebody else but if you get emotive over tyst then so be it. But noy my reasons.

Thats right, my son was talking about the advert and said he would like a boxer dog. He wont be getting one though as he is too busy to look after one.

Someone told me who owned one said that they suffer with serious health problems.

You could just say why dont rich people just give their money away because they dont need it all. People want to see xmas adverts and they need to sell as much as they can which is a good thing.

so by your reckoning businesses shouldnt advertize. Anyone who is successful should give their money away.

John lewis is a big business they probably give to charity in different ways. Now i maybe wrong but im sure john lewis is one of the few places that stay closed boxing day and another peak sale day and pay to stay closed so their employees can spend time with there family

Aren't they owned / part owned by all the staff too?

I imagine all the people complaining will be spending all their spare cash on charity rather than wasting it on consumerism.

How can a fun thread turn into this shit-storm? I joined here for fun, I think most others did too xx

Haven't followed this link, but if it's the one with a trampoline then I've just seen it and thought it was pretty rubbish to be honest. Nothing will ever beat that sainsburys one, from a couple of years ago, in my opinion.

I don't see how this ad would spoil christmas for kids.

When mine still believed in Santa they would still get pressies from Mum and Dad, so maybe the trampoline was a pressie from her parents rather than Santa.
