So maybe around this year I've finally started taking debts serious and paying them off however the road is long and it's a struggle every payday! The idiot in me thought if I forget them they'll disappear! How wrong was I!! Another 5000 and I'm officially debt free ?????? it's taking forever seems like it'll never end! Anyone else in the same position?

I know but my god I'm on the verge of cancelling all direct debits and just enjoying life lol what will I do with good credit anyway? Blow it all on a loan or something daft lol

I'm in tens of thousands of debt

it'll never be paid back, but it'll never affect my credit rating. The debt would be a student one.

Tens of thousands in student debt isn't amazing but I know I earn enough to pay it off so not too bothered to be honest. Well done for getting it down to a manageable level

Aah, but you won't get good credit. Trust me, once you're down "they" will keep you down.

However, you'll get one hell of a kick out of saying... "What credit card? I don't have one"

And you'll get another kick when you're approached by the Capitulation OneGold salesmen in motorway services only to tell them "I'm sorry, I haven't time to answer your questions, I'm already late for my creditors meeting"

I fully believe in that but I have a large debt due to something I didn't forsee so I'm slowly paying it off.

Any spare cash I'm saving for the unforseen.

Yes! I have debts from my car crash of a marriage, of which my ex-wife is contributing absolutely nothing. These debts are mainly from work done on the house which I'm still liable for, even though neither of us are living there any more.

One of the debts will be paid off this time next year; once that's sorted, I'll be adding what I paid on that onto the other one to clear that one quicker!

It is a long road OP, but keep slogging along and you'll get there in the end!

But I work for my parents company.

They controlled my life for so long down to the food I eat.The people I was friends with,The car I brought WITH MY MONEY.The time I was alowed out until.The places I could and couldn't go.Even my sexuality they tryed to chainge.

I could not deal with it no longer and moved out so to try and understand they even chose the house I brought lol.

I started by saying I have no debts and money in the bank BUT to me I have payed a massive price by living a life that wasn't truly mine.Watching friends have fun from a distance when I wasn't allowed too and watching them with there freedom go out to nightclubs and where they wanted.

So to me I may not have any money debts and even though I'm eternally greatfull and I live my parents I have paid another type of debt with my life to be where I am.

There always two sides to a coin and it's about finding the middle ground.

Life should be about enjoying it and living it and if that costs money then do it but also never go to far.

Only do and spend what you need to make you happy X

I've had had terrible run of luck recently and credit is the only way I'm getting through it. The fact that I'm about to pay £800 of car repair bills with a credit card makes me sick to my stomach but I have no other option.

i work in IVA's, give up credit for 5years..write of a whack of the debt and debt free/new credit file just after the 5years..its legislation.

but really only if you are struggling or things are pretty tight and the debt(s) should total over 4.5k of unsecured finance(though there are many variables)

Work hasn't yet been done but it needs a clutch, heating system (resistor, motor and melted wiring) and I've also just this last month had a new battery for it and 2 new tyres.

There's good debt, and there's bad debt. Education is generally filed under good debt.

Sorry to hear of your debt problems . I have never been in debt , but then when I was younger I never went on the expensive foreign holidays which you are enjoying .

My priority was to buy a house . Luxuries went by the wayside..

What car is it ? I'm guessing it's oldish as a dual mass flywheel could easily cost that alone. I'm to far to really help but if you mail me details I can tell you the price of parts so you know how much your paying in labour

Other than the mortgage, I got myself to about £15k in credit card debt. I transferred it around a few zero percent offers when I could, and worked hard on clearing it. Some positive job stuff helped, and I'm now down to just the mortgage - even have some savings!

There's no magic to it sadly - you need to accept that you spent more than you earnt for a while, and so now you have to go the other way...

The worst part for me is that I couldn't even tell you what I ran up my debt on...not a car, not a holiday, not home improvements...it just went

Sadly you cannot have everything . I missed out on some things when I was younger and may have sacrificied some of my social life in order to pass exams and buy a house.

However I have now reaped the awards and can enjoy life now .

Given the choice I would rather be financially secure than go on holidays which I cannot really afford .

I agree with the poster saying that there are two sides to a coin.

I got into about £16k of debt about 6 years ago through no fault of my own...

Then the roof of my business premises I rent off the council fell through and pissed in with rain for over 12 months, the council couldn't afford to repair so gave me it rent free.. Fortunately my business didn't suffer so I've now cleared everything I owed..

To not have the repayments every month is such a great feeling..

I was lucky though, I certainly realise that and do feel sorry for others as its tough out there..

Last month there was a "technical issue" when processing holiday pay in our payroll department. Happened to be the time I had 2 weeks holiday. So...through zero fault of my own, my wages were £700 short.

I've had no heating for a week now coz I'm on a pre pay meter. Myself and my lad have been living off porridge for the last 4 days as that's all I have (if you don't count the half loaf of bread I "borrowed" from work yesterday).

If I could get a payday loan I totally would have, but I couldn't due to splitting up with the ex in March and being on my arse until I got back on track.

I can see how it can spiral out of control and it's even more frustrating when the root cause is not your fault.

Oh God nooooo... Not the Dual Mass Flywheel shit again, just weld the fucker up! Seriously, on a car such as a Ford Focus, dual mass flywheels tend to be only fitted to diesel versions and the good news is, cheap adaptor kits are readily available.

No, it won't be to manufacturer spec, yes it will invalidate your warranty, but the clutch will last shed loads longer, and if you ever need replace it again, it'll be shed loads cheaper.

As for the heater, if you got melted wiring, then the whole goddamn car could have set on fire - sue the manufacturers!

Sorry, but I'd walk into the HR office and the Accounts office and the Payroll office and demand a cash advance if I was in that situation. If your employer has fucked up, or suffered a fuck up in their systems, then surely they'd understand and want to support you?

Can't actually travel to head office (where payroll is) I can only phone them. And once I'd had 2 weeks of them telling me they're looking into it each time I phoned, I was simply told...."at least you have 2 weeks holiday you can take again, cause your days weren't deducted due to the fault and you not getting paid for them"

It's 6 years old, my mechanic is a good friend I know he's not ripping me off. The clutch kit is £350 and the parts for the heating come to just under £300! So £150 for labour for 2 big jobs is really exceptional tbh!

The whole car still could set fire seeing as it hasn't been fixed yet. It's not the manufacturers fault, some fucking retard has tampered with it before I bought it.

As for clutch I've never had a clutch issue before as I don't ride the clutch, so again, some fuckwit who can't really drive has caused me this issue.

The you are missing out on safety.

The best way to pay for items over £100 is by credit card, then pay off the credit card immediately.

That way it does not cost any extra but you get extra insurance if anything goes wrong with the item or transaction.

I have about £500 quid on a credit t card which I'm annoyed about as I worked hard to pay off 10k a few years ago and said I'd never get credit again (unless it was a mortgage egc)

Am thinking of seeing a financial advisor as I know I piss a lot of my money away and really should be in a better situation than I am right now living pay day to pay day

I really dislike the payday lenders that seem to be completely unregulated. I saw one the other day charging 1272% interest. Don't touch them! They're a disgrace leeching off people who are struggling.

Yup. But it's mostly debt I had to take on from previous relationships...just cleared one cc. 10.5k on another. Looking to halve that this year..car paid of by Christmas..stop paying maintenance in 18 months..however I don't have an extravagant lifestyle...don't smoke and rarely drink. Getting there...slowly.

I'm a debt collector & take people to Court for non-payment. The mess some people get into - and I'm not laying blame on them - frightens me. I help where I can but some just take the mick.

I have 7 more payments on my student loan from 1995 & my never ending mortgage. Things can be a bit tight sometimes but I try to keep a tight reign on spending - difficult with 2 kids whose friends don't struggle!!

I've been debt free for the past 6 years. Prior to that I was on a debt management plan, it took 11 years to pay off the 35K debt that I had run up.

Shamefully there was nothing to show for the amount that I had racked up.

However in that time I set up my own business and this year is my 10 year Anniversary of working for myself and currently employing 7 members of staff.

I now keep my head above water, have all bills paid on the 1st of the month and have some money to enjoy life. The problem now is finding the time to enjoy it.

Hard work and discipline is needed to pay off all that fun of spend spend spend.
