"Wasnt there one the other day in croydon as well"

not sure it was a derailment, incidents involving the trams and people or vehicles are not uncommon sadly..

not all have been fatal but some since it opened have..

If he is under police arrest then they believe there is some sort of criminal niglect I don't w at to suggest maybe drinking day before and over limit

Says 8 on the news now, so sad and to be so low down on the news today too, I know it's global news the other thing but come on, give us our news back!! Was it all over the US when we had the referendum?

They have potentially arrested him purely to be able to breathalyse him and potentially Take blood/urine samples rather than having a suspicion of drink/drugs being involved

Use this route regularly and the distance between tram and car is nothing.

Also that bit of road has major roadworks at present. It has been an accident waiting to happen.

Thoughts out to everyone involved x

Halifax

I dont want to speculate but as a former train driver I have a little insight.

The driver will be tested for drink and drugs and they will also check his medical history, same as what happened with the Glasgow bin lorry.

There are 2 main reasons for a tram/train to derail. Either an obstruction on the line that lifts the wheels over the rail or speeding. If it is the latter then there really is not execuse and he will be prosecuted.

Thoughts are with the poor people who set off on their daily journey and wont be going home to their familys.

Jack

Not good it happened. I am watching the news now and they were warned about it before and normally the tram should go slowly around the corner, some say he took the corner at 40mph.

Another tram driver has been suspended after footage in the sun appeared to show him asleep, transport company first group has said. The footage appeared to show him nodding off at the controls on the same line a crash killed seven people in croydon on 9 november.
