All the press releases and photos are near-identical (churnalism at its cut 'n paste sloppiest) and all lead with the same first word "Hitler" - they're not Hitler's knickers but Eva Braun's - proving our continued fascination with the Nazi period.

A little more digging reveals that "An American GI liberated the pants (and the other items) following a raid on the Berghof, Hitler's holiday home in the Bavarian Alps."

And that those items entered the possession of an English collector who died, went up for auction and remain in the country.

I also found out that Hilter and Braun met in 1929 when she was 17 and he was 40.
