I think some can carry it off. Others would look ridiculous.

I like ladies in a crisp shirt too and nothing else.

No problem with the shirt and tie but I'd never wear a cardigan...

I'm way too young for that!

It does make me look like a history student when I do it.

I also have a t jacket with leather elbow patches, just to really finish the look.

That sounds perfect. It reminds me of a sordid fling with my philosophy lecturer. I like the academic look a lot.

I am sporting a very attractive cardigan this morning, no shirt or tie though.

My mum made me laugh when she told me I need to go to Edinburgh Woollen Mills for my winter woolies now that would be sartorial disaster.

I often do. Almost always a self tie bow tie and often (but not always) a sleeveless cardigan.

My dad wears a tie all the time. When I was about 7 I knitted him one in random knit wool. He wore it to work on a building site every day

This thought actually popped into my head while I was walking home from work the other day and spotted a man's cardie in a shop window. Just a mental image of someone I fuck fairly regularly in a shirt, tie and cardigan. On him it's very endearing and makes me want to jump his bones. So as a 'look' it can work.

I still have my red leather tie from the 80s a black one too. I used to wear a pink and black diagonally striped tie with a trouser suit in the 90s and early 00s. I like that look on a woman.

"Shirt and tie with a cardigan...?

"

Yes.

If I was a bloke. It's quite retro and would be quite a statement.

You'd have to be clever with the colours and textures of the tie, shirt and cardi. Playing around with the type of knot in the tie is essential too.

The more I think of it the more appealing it is.

I'm surprised a stylist hasn't pulled up that look with a modern twist in a fashion or the Sunday newspaper mags, to be honest.
