The true meaning of Bonfire night...

It always tickles me when I hear people announcing that they believe that fireworks should not be available to the public and should only be used at authorised displays supervised by the council.

Have those people really, truly no idea at all as to what bonfire night is all about?

If Guy Fawkes had gotten his way, the council would have been blown sky high

Well it was, but if he'd have blown up the HP Sauce factory, then there'd have been no councillors to be in charge of the local councils...

Why should the historical reasons for Bonfire Night change their views? And as DS says - it was Parliament and King James that were the targets - not Braintree County Council

Don't give much of a shit for the meaning. All I know is it scares the living piss out of all my animals for a week or so.

Guy Fawkes was a terrorist. People seem to pick and choose which ones to glorify.
