Does any one have an opinion on anti depressants,ive been given sertraline ,not sure why as i am not depressed,but they are awful things.

Years ago I didn't think I was depressed but after going to doctors because I wanted to be sterlised and he had to do a mental assessment on me. It actually turned out I was suffering from bad depression but was ignoring all the signs and was in denial x

Have you asked your doctor why they prescribed you them?

I hate all the chemical ones, but I have found St John's Wort very effective sometimes, helped me give up smoking I believe (dopamine hit).

I suffer deep bouts of depression and was prescribed Mirtazipine from my GP.

Honestly,,,,,, made me worse.

I would drop off to sleep at the weirdest of times. On a constant downer, and hit the libido very hard

Came off them, changed my diet a bit exercised and did some classes

Not out of the woods by a long shot but more healthier physically and not falling asleep

Just looking on the internet and they're also for anxiety, panic attacks, ocd, ptsd as well as depression

I went to him about another issue,and i only said i also felt tearful and a bit down and he perscribed them,then yesterday i rang him and said they were making me feel rotten and he said they will for the first week,then he said he could give me diazipam to help with the side effects of sertralene, i told him i am not taking them ,and he said i will just have to percivere with the side effects.

They do say you'll feel worse before getting better, they take about a month to start working

got prescribed Amitriptyline a few years ago,150 mg a day,i stopped taking them they are the devils drug

Go back and ask him about counselling too.

IAPT are self referral.

Probably a good idea to go back to your doc's and ask why he has prescribed them to you. I would be a little worried that he hadn't done so already as he should have fully explained to you his reasoning.

20mg a night is ok to give you a good sleep,but you are drowsy for hours the day after,i stopped taking them altogether,i came out of my bout of anxiety and the only way i can describe,i put my hand up my arse and pulled myself together,i had a long chat with myself in the mirror(literally)

Firstly, sometimes diazapam is prescribed when giving new meds, changing, or changing doses

It keeps you at a level till they sink in

Also there are so many antidepressants it is a case of trial and error. But you really need to give them a month to see if they are helping or not

And dont just stop taking something ween yourself of it

Been on them seven days,i am a wreck lol no appetite,cant sleep,nervous,cant drive,jumpy,headaches,and the doc says keep taking them,i never.had any of this before i started them

As others have said, if you are suffering from depression your doctor obviously thinks you need to be on these.

Week 1 is the worst.

If no improvement in 2nd to 3rd week then go back to your doctor.

Those things you are feeling are all normal side effects when you first start taking antidepressants.

You should definitely know why they've been prescribed.

SOME doctors do prescribe them without looking further into the cause..

If you are genuinely depressed then you should start to feel a lot better over the next week.

I (Devil-lady) was on medication for about 6 months.Really helped me,sadly I stoped taking them and I'm suffering again.

Week one was really bad but I felt the benefits about two weeks later.

Reading

I am on these and they do take a couple of weeks to kick in and you feel ill, dizzy and nauseous but it'll pass. Antidepressants saved me and some people think they are bad but I personally think they are a useful tool to help with depression and anxiety. Power through it but I do find it odd that your doctor just went ahead and put you on them without your full knowledge

Google and research 5-htp, they are excellent. You can get them from Holland and Barrett. They are natural and help to boost your moods and improve sleep even if you you don't need any help

Yes i am worried about the tests i am having for the lung cancer,and i am copeing ok with it,but it seems my doctor dosent think so,he asked if i was upset and worried about it,and i told him that all the worrying in the world isnt going to change anything,then he said ,take these they will help and they dont.

im not a doctor, but he might just prescribe 7 days if 2mg

These would take the edge of it while they start to work. Diazapam works as a relaxant sometimes prescribed as pain relief or if someone is scared of the dentist.

I will admit I lost my appetite and I felt like a zombie some days so I can understand your concern.

I'm looking into other ways but there's absolutely nothing wrong with taking antidepressants.

Having read other threads where you have mentioned ill-health, it is vital you understand what your GP puts you on and why. Often long term conditions do cause depression (you mentioned pain). Treating the depression may help ease symptoms of other issues.

As others have stated, antidepressants can take time to kick in. Once upon a time it'd be 4-6 weeks, now the new wave inc sertraline take about 2-4 weeks. The benzodiazepine (diazepam) has been suggested as a temporary measure. If you're worried about drowsiness, try a lower dose with GP's approval.

If you are juggling many balls (your own health and carer for mother) approach social services as they may be able to give you respite. It will be financially more viable to help you now than if you crash and burn and they have to "replace" you as a carer. Perhaps even your GP can advise you on these things.

there the only pills that help my daughter with her crps she takes 5 a night to relax her limbs or she doesent sleep her gp is monitoring it

drugs acts different on every individual. Any concerns should be voiced to docs of pharmacist. They do take a few weeks to get in your system and start working

I was on Setraline for 6 months ten years ago. I remember that they made me feel terrible in the first few days. They did help though. CBT did job though.
