My dad did such a roadtrip when he graduated high school. He had a red mustang and drove for weeks on end. Sounds lovely. Marc and I are planning one when we go back home.

you can keep the east coast..ill start in Arizona and meander to via sedona to Colorado, up to northern california and back again..if i could hide and live in Arizona desert i would do

dislike san fran and cities, LA was ok, but wouldnt want to stay there x boston and kentucky..not going there again...

You need to give the East coast a chance, I am like you in that I prefer the West coast but there is also plenty to see on the east

Try driving through the Appalachian Mountains, especially in the fall, or visit Maine, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, will all make you appreciate what the east coast has on offer

Then visit Washington DC visit the Vietnam Memorial & World War memorials, very sombre feeling.

And ofcourse you have one of the best sky diving centres in the USA - Skydive Deland

East coast too many good places to mention

Then again, West USA brings you a great sense of feeling, makes you feel alive and the scenery is outstanding, whether it be the National parks including Yellowstone, Grand Teton & Yosemite, see the Grand Canyon, drive through monument valley and visit my favourite location of which I return to many times - Jackson Hole

If you are doing a one off drive in USA do not choose route-66, there are 100's of scenic drives much better, and with route 66 you will find a lot of your journey is the I-40

Then ofcourse you have the Hawaiian Islands, no wonder Mick Fleetwood made his home there, and of course the surf of North Shore Oahu every true surfers winter destination.

I've been to the State about 15 times. I used to do fly-drives on my own. 3 weeks of the open road, stopping where ever I fancied. I've visited 30+ states. By far my favourite is the West coast. California, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah were my favs.

Places I'd love to revisit are:

San Francisco

Monument Valley

Canyon de Chelley

Bryce Canyon

Bodie

Monteray

i'd love to do a long winnebago trip...months...done a greyhound bus from new york to chicago twice..it was wonderful..the sheer amount of space is hard to absorb..
