"I Got myself sorted as H was told a third pregency would have serious life threatening repurcussions for her & like you I didn't want her filling herself with hormone blockers when I could sort it with a simple procedure..I'd make the same choice even if the pain/ache was a 100% certainty. Hope this helps S" Similar reason behind my decision to have the snip maybe 6yrs ago while still married. Never had any issues or pain beyond the expected post procedure pain while healing . Good luck OP

"I am seriously considering having a vasectomy because as I already have children and I don't wish to have any more whatsoever, I'm feeling the time is right. It's less harmful in the long run than any potential partner pumping hormones and God knows what into their body. Anyway the question I am asking is what are the pros and cons of having a vasectomy? Having looked online the pros seem pretty self explanatory. Also I've read a lot about reoccurring pain in testicles by men who have had the procedure. According to NHS choice online, 1 in 10 men will experience testicular pain for the rest of their lives after having a vasectomy. Can any guys on here please clear up if this is actually true or not? Many thanks. " hubby had his before we met. My biggest wish was we had children together. You're still very young. Make sure it's what you definitely want. Both of you if you have a partner .

This is a very good point & I'm probably the male version of the modern "career" woman, didn't want them when younger at all and got the snip when I was 50 (H was 32) After our second was born H was "Never again" due to the complications but I can tell you now despite the "Could prove fatal" health warning if I hadn't had the snip she would be asking now at 36 for another baby. "Had it done about five years ago. Uncomfortable for a few weeks & I've never had a problem since. " Weeks? I wouldn't say weeks. A couple of days of discomfort and back not having sex within a week.

"The only problem I had was that the first op did not work as those pesky little sperm cells were still finding a way out. Second op fixed it and no problems since. " how many samples did you give before they decided to re do it?

No way - I'm far too much of a baby to do that! I think the colour drained from my face as soon as I lay down. Took me ages to get over the local anaesthetic too, I was wobbling all over the place.

"Pro; no accidental children produced, now have more freedom to lose the condoms if you know STIs aren't an issue, no chunky slimy bits in your cum. Cons; your cum will be much runnier, taste different, may have some change in testicle sensitivity or reaccuring aches and soreness. A bit tricky to reverse if you change your mind but easier to do than for a woman. Does take a couple of months to be absolutely sure none of your pesky swimmers are making it through. Speaking from the perspective of one in LTR with a guy who has had it done what with lacking the essential parts" my husbands cum is still thick. He had his 15 years ago...oh and it still tastes as yukky as anyone else's lol.

"I am seriously considering having a vasectomy because as I already have children and I don't wish to have any more whatsoever, I'm feeling the time is right. It's less harmful in the long run than any potential partner pumping hormones and God knows what into their body." Firstly, this is a big thing for a man to undertake (not just physically, but psychologically too), it's a very brave and considerate thing to do for the person you love. My husband had a vasectomy for the same reason ~ so that I didn't have to keep filling my body with artificial hormones ~ and it's possibly the most considerate, selfless thing he's ever done for me. Like most of the guys have said already, he had a few days of discomfort but as long as you take it easy and let your body recover properly then you shouldn't have any lasting problems. We both agree that the freedom it gives you in your love making, is well worth it! Good luck, and well done for considering it in the first place, out of consideration for your partner. V x

"I can't tell you re pain wise although I suspect it's not too bad If you're with a long term partner I personally think the man should step up & have the snip if the decision has been made not to have kids... " The NHS will agree with you there cos it's cheaper than sterilising a woman.

"I had mine 24 years ago under local anaesthetic, pain was ok and I only had 1 day off work! At the time, like you, I didn't envisage wanting any more children .... 24 yrs on and now with a 2nd wife who is much younger I have just had a vasectomy reversal .... pain wise that has been a different experience all together!! " wow. Do you know if the sperm is alive again? 24 years is a long time to try a reversal.

" Yup i agree, discomfort was minimal I had mine done after the mrs had been on the pill for 15yrs, she suffered terrible migraines from them. After we had two kids and we had no intention of having more, I decided it was my term to do my bit and have never looked back! And yes well done for contemplating having it done, respect! Shame we split after 30yrs, but still no regrets and it does make it easier when starting a fresh

"I had mine done 5 years ago when I was with my ex, the physical aspects of it for me were just a few days of discomfort. The long term aspects are more emotional, the finality of it is something that you need to think about. Watching my kids grow up knowing that that's the last time you'll experience 'that' with a child of yours is possibly the hardest aspect to come to terms with Beard" Agreed, and for me it is the one major benefit of our situation, medical for H, age for me, I didn't want another once past 50, I based it on the fact I was a "happy accident" my siblings are 24-22 years older than me, I remember being at school & on open day everyone's parents were in their 30's cept mine who were on their 50's, you do remember these things..Its different now though with lots of couples waiting till they are late 30's into 40's so unlike my parents I'm not the only "old man" at the school gates..
