"I'm completely the opposite to you OP, I love Halloween. Love the Halloween parties and the dressing up aspect to it. Like it or not Halloween is becoming more mainstream now and is one of the big calendar events of the year. As for the kids trick or treating just a bit of fun for them isn't it? ![]() Blimey. I agree with Centaur UK ![]()

"Am I being a misery guts as I cannot enthuse about Halloween and the hype around it? We seem to follow the septics on most things and this celebration is directly out of the US tat marketing manual. I really cannot see the point of my barbers (a real gents barbers who asks if you need anything for the weekend) putting cotton wool, string and incongruous fake pumpkins dotted around the place. I for one will be out on Monday as its the only day in the year when parents encourage kids to take sweets from strangers? Bah Humbug ![]() I,m with you OP, I have downloaded posters from police site to put on my door to say no trick or treaters. I gave sweets last year, will never do it again. Fed up of seeing all the Shite in shops too. Very commercialized and over rated. X

"I think it's just something for the kids, I love seeing the effort some of the kids/parents go to, I think it's brilliant. But, unlike centaur, I think more people are less enthusiastic about it compared to when I was a kid. Many households go out or pretend to go out an not get involved, which I have no problem with as it's their choice, but I have a problem with those doing it yet letting their kids go out to get treats from other houses ![]() I just don't see the attraction. But I am an old git!

"Oh I love Halloween! Not the commercial stuff but I like spooky creepy scary things ![]() Samhain you mean the celebration of summers end and the night when the souls of the dead are allowed to rise from the underworld to walk amongst us once more . Its a night of great power for those who know how to walk the mists of the ether where time has no meaning and there is no life or death .

"Oh I love Halloween! Not the commercial stuff but I like spooky creepy scary things ![]() Pesky kids will be walking in the mists dressed up to look like Willy Wonkas munchskins gone scabby. What happened to knocking on doors and running away or nicking gates for the Bongy?

"Oh I love Halloween! Not the commercial stuff but I like spooky creepy scary things ![]() True but they are doing no harm and keeping a very very old festival alive even if they don't know its true meaning . So I see no harm in kids having fun we where all kids once I used to love building a guy Fawkes as a kid and doing penny for the guy with the other kids down the street . Halloween for the kids is more or less the same its a fun bonding experience for them harmless but fun .

"I like opening the door to all the little witches, wizards, goblins etc and pretending to be scared. I'm a woman of simple tastes ![]() I just think it's all contrived kids with tubs of sugary gunk aided and abetted by parents who have succumbed to the ad men and women!

"I like opening the door to all the little witches, wizards, goblins etc and pretending to be scared. I'm a woman of simple tastes ![]() There's truth in that but when a tiny kid dressed up as a witch is clearly having a great time I just enjoy it. ![]()

Most pubs and nightclubs (even swingers clubs) have a Halloween theme night now and fancy dress parties for adults.

"I like it, but the kids here are pretty good and only go to the houses with pumpkins outside. Bonfire night is better though. ![]() Bongy night was my fav as a kid. Weeks before building the bongy and having fires around it on the lead up to it. Great fun

I went to a party at a club last year one lady went for the dressing up and make up gig but looked a little unusual emerging from a private room minus the costume and with the make up......shall we smudged a little!

"So many people think the Americans 'invented' Halloween, when in reality, even a form of trick or treating was being done in medieval England! In fact, if anyone cares to come to the guildhall museum in Boston tomorrow, we'll happily show you how it all started." I can't I am trick or treating!
