I never use the chippy, I once saw the guy behind the counter chuck a sausage in the same fryer as the chips and that was it, I asked for my money back and never used a chip shop since, that was about 20 year ago

Also, I have noticed this in the past, there are very much geographical variations with what you can get from a chippy.

I'm in Scotland and never seen a saveloy for instance.

i worked in a chip shop when i was 16 and there was a Scottish Army Regiment based in town... we had to add 'battered burgers' to the menu for them lol

Cod, chips and a wally. With lashings of vinegar, so the wrapping paper is saturated to breaking point, followed by a liberal sprinkling of salt....all bad for you but what the hell its delicious !!

I'm actually really funny about eating out full stop for the same reason, you don't know what they are cooking what with in the kitchen or what they are usinging

If I'm being bad then it would be a all steak pie and a couple of scollops

We also have a special batter which is essentially breadcrumbs, not sure if thats a thing elsewhere in Britain..

Chippies are a bit insensitive to Vegetarians for that reason. Even now with all the differnet diet and allergies.

Imagine if you just wanted a portion of chips and you had a gluten allergy. Not sure if the batter in the fat would still hold properties of it all not

I worked with a north west regiment over in Cambridge in the 90's and they had never served gravy on chips so they had to add that to the menu in the village chippy
