regardless of the merits of wars and which ones we should be in or not.. I always had the upmost respect for the residents of the little market town..

after watching the documentry on a day in the life on a day of repatriation my respect for them has gone up 1000 times

that was fantastic, and moving, and so dignified...

it is a shame that it is coming to an end in september when the local airbase closes.....

think they will move it to brize norton instead and if they do will still get the same support ...... i used to live there and know what its like very moving indeed but we do show our true colours

I've not watched it but i think I will. I am massively opposed to the war but thinks what happens in Wootten Bassett is incredible and so very touching. Makes me proud to be British.

we watched this and were humbled by the people of both the town and of those there.having both a son and son inlaw gone through afgan its brings home the reality.

Wootton Bassett is my ancestral hometown. An ancestor used to own The Cross Keys pub featured in the programme and I visited it last year when I was in the area.

It really is a lovely little town full of very friendly people and I'm glad it's been given 'Royal' status as they've really put it on the map with the repatriation ceremonies.

In some ways I'm glad Lyneham is closing as I don't think it's right for a town to become known solely for such sad reasons when it has so much else to offer too.

(The little square house on stilts in the High St was the old d*unk tank)

Ok this has been bugging me since I watched it.

Did anyone think it a bit weird of the man who collected cards that where on flowers and symphathy cards that where left for the dead?

He regarded those soldiers as part of the town's history now and he knew most of the cards etc would have been thrown away eventually. He put them in that album so that there would be a permanent record that will end up in the town's public records office or library.

He did say that he hoped the repatriations would stop before he reached the end of the book, which I thought was quite poignant.

I think a part of why he does it is to give him something to do, as I didn't see evidence of anyone else living in his house. Poor old boy.
