Tapas! Why?

It appears a work colleague has booked a tapas place for our Christmas Lunch. To say I am livid is somewhat of an understatement. What is wrong with The Black Horse, where they serve a proper turkey lunch with all the trimmings rather than itty bitty stuff? I suppose I must go and say 'hola' to all the whippersnappers as it would be churlish to boycott the event. I shan't enjoy it though....bah.

We had tapas in Seville. It was gorgeous, varied and cheap.

Tapas in this country is overpriced tat.

I love it if I'm honest. It's perfect drinking food.

I'd be with you on the Turkey dinner though

I love tapas, even if its because its one of those word the good people of the north east say so well, it trips of a Geordie tongue like Honey

Ask for a turkey meatballs, patatas bravas, settle for chorizo sausage instead of chipolatas and take your own jar of cranberry jelly. Sorted!

I stopped going to work Christmas lunches years ago. I resented being charged a ridiculous price for poor, mass produced, formulaic grub and having to eat it with miserable, curmudgeonly people. I often suggested a different venue but was shouted down in favour of tradition that everyone moaned about . If tapas had been suggested I would have gone in a truce.

If my work booked the local pub I'd be a bit miffed tbh. My job is very solitary as I work alone for myself and I'm always glamming all the ladies up for their nights out. Haven't had a works night out in years it would be pretty sad just me myself and I . Anyone want an extra at theirs

I was just contemplating booking myself a sad, lonely, christmas work dinner for one. :D

I'm anti work Christmas dinners whatever the menu. It's almost always over-priced rubbish served up in establishments that are used to doing covers of two or four people and who struggle to feed large groups all at one time.

Bah humbug!

My works do is always shit, someone always gets too d*unk, tries to cop off with someone, starts as fight, or tells the boss he's a twat.

The sad part is I'm self employed

I am, I am. It now appears that 'an email went round' last week and Tapas was the popular choice. The people have spoken, damn'em!

I stopped going to the work Christmas dinner but the last few years they've given us money to have departmental dinners where we liked.

I work with a fantastic group of people and enjoy being with them so our Christmas dos have been great.

This years will be a blast as it'll be our last as we all retire.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

The god awful works Christmas turkey lunch... It's always abysmal..

Embrace this and remember the humble tapas started life as a slice of bread placed over the top of your drink to prevent flies doing the breaststroke in it... So the perfect accompaniment for a good drink...

I had my first experience of tapas recently and really enjoyed it, I get the feeling that the more of you that there are the better it is.

As for Christmas dos I think that you should look on it as an opportunity to humanise your work colleagues and make new connections. Enjoy the occasion and celebrate the year that you've had

Great idea!

Apart from the fact that a " traditional " ( it isn't actually, but that's a different matter) lunch of turkey etc is disgusting anyway, the usual pub office party version is even worse. At work I insisted that the Xmas lunch ( bah humbug) was anything but the " traditional " filth .

Luckily here, I don't even have to go out of my way to avoid turkey and so on.

Turkey?... too dry and tasteless. ... you pay for the bone weight lol.

Tapas and good wine sounds like a tradition to start....

I you've had proper tapas at a proper price you'd understand how good it is and makes for great relaxed unrushed conversation. No need to worry your arse if it gets a little over cooked and dry or cold either....

Tapas for Xmas....

I am coming round to the idea now...and it won't sit so heavy on the stomach when we all troop back to the office to work the rest of the afternoon..
