Dogs and other animals on Bonfire Night

Hello fellow animal lovers.

So its the time of year that a lot of our furry friends aren't too keen on. Last night, we had the first fireworks in our estate and my lab just couldn't settle.

I hate to see him like this so, after googling I found that on YouTube has videos which allow animals to get used to the noise of fireworks in a safe and controlled environment.

Ive been playing some throughout the day and its honestly not bothering him now. I don't know if it'll be the same when the local l fireworks start again tonight but I'll keep you posted

That's good I hate to see animals stressed because of fireworks

I got 4 cats

Wot seems to help them is a nice worm spot by the electric fire for them. clos the curtains and put on classic FM on the radio.

Keeps them carm and Works every year.

You can also get tablets from the Vets to calm them down for bonefire night

My dog barks and barks and can't settle but he is only 2 so still a bit young.

You can get pheromone products from the vet to help. Also for cats (not sure if you can use for dogs too) you can get a tablet called zylkene. It's a natural food supplement that works in a similar was to Prozac.

All this helps but the best thing is to keep one room as dark and quiet as you can with lots of hiding places.

My cats love the pretty lights and aren't too bothered by the bangs but get really scared by the screeching noise some fireworks make

Mine loves fireworks hates vacuum cleaners....I think it's since I started hoovering him!.... Figured it was easier than waiting for it to hit the floor

Personally I think that a lot of their anxiety stems from the owners reaction on the lead up and during the event. You are their pack leader, they look to you for assurance and if you are creating a fuss about it they will react accordingly.

I've got a kitten he's 8 months old. I'm hoping he's ok but I'm sure he will be we live in a quiet close and most years the noise isn't too bad. Just have to get his litter tray back out and keep him indoors.

My 5 are ok, they dont even wake up but when i had the one as a kitten the vet gave me some kind of sedative.

Oh and one of mine lets me hoover her

Yeah I know but seen as he likes lying on the floor I just run it over him!....I think he's more bothered about having to turn over while I do the other side?... It's a male thing not a dog thing

Staffy - a complete mess, has to be on tablets from vets a few days before, she is the same during thunderstorms as well poor girl

No i did hear that only we tried making a fuss of her and we tried ignoring her makes no difference. We had a minature poodle who would wonder about or get under the sideboard, we also had a long haired minature sausage dog who just used to ignore them.

My Labrador loves them, he stands at the window watching, they scare they greyhound to death, soon as he hears them his gets under his quilt shaking

My dog hates the theme tune to family guy, when it comes in he just howl's, barks and runs round in circles, even if he's asleep he whines in his sleep if it comes on

They do say that if you fuss over an animal about fireworks you reinforce their feeling that something is wrong.

If you just go about your business calmly they are supposed to accept there is noting wrong.

I appreciate that it is very difficult to ignore a pet who is upset though

Our Bess hates fireworks, even more than the sound of thunder. I really do have to make sure all my windows and doors are shut tightly.

My oldest dog is deaf so nothing bothers her

The youngest just hides under my duvet and goes to sleep

I've no idea with my cat, cause when I got her it was the time i ad to keep her in anyways for her injections, so not sure wot I'll do probably c how the first night goes! But when the council come an cut the grass I keep her in unless she's on the roof, cause the machine spots the bits out, an can hang loudly on the garden fence! So no idea
