but surely Boris wants post Brexit for us to stand tall on the world stage and attract flight away from Europe..

his idea of the estuary never got off the ground so it has to go somewhere..

Damn I was hoping, against hope I guess, that Gatwick would get it.

It's jobs innit?

There's not enough houses as it is around here. Demolish loads more for it wouldn't help.

I don't want it here

its less demolition of houses at Gatwick than it is at Heathrow and with the extra jobs the runway will require then that will be a boost locally for the housing market..

respect it's close to you, we are not that far and it would affect us on the roads and whatever flight paths they would need..

its going to happen at Gatwick in the next decade ish as they have a current ban till 2019 on a new runway so they will be ready to apply then..

I'm not surprised however I feel Birmingham would have been the correct choice the south east is too busy and over populated , and sinking xx

It's the same as the old National Football stadium debate when they rebuilt Wembley.

The best place for the fans would have been the Midlands - but like the national football stadium the Nations Capital will always get first priority.

Expanding manchester would have been welcomed, having to trek down south to get descent flights is a pain in the arse.

Plus all the extra jobs and business is more than welcome.

When you moved to Heathrow the airport was already there was it not ? Same as moving next to a pub that plays live music then getting pub closed down because you don't like the noise

This.

My dad lives near Heathrow, he doesn't moan as he knew it was there long before he was! One of the reasons he got his house at a good price was due to being on the flightpath

Demolition wouldn't be needed to expand Gatwick though, they have already acquired enough land for another runway at Gatwick, that happened over a decade ago....

Both Heathrow and Gatwick are operating at 95% capacity, Manchester on the other hand has nowhere near reached full capacity and isn't expected to do so for at least 25 years

Birmingham is crying out for another runway its on the outskirts of the city loads of motorway access and its central to the whole country perfect choice but once again its always London as with the national stadium.

I once heard a story of some Americans getting a tour around part of heathrow and they could see a long way as it was a clear day. Windsor castle was pointed out to them and they asked why on earth would the queen build so close to a busy airport. I guess they have less perspective on history than us

I don't agree about the stadium. But I do agree about utilising more of our other airports in the midlands and beyond, especially (sorry to cross topics) with Brexit looming.

most of the teams who play at the national stadium are northern teams yet the fans have to travel for several hours to get there then the journey home means your not getting home until the early hours of the morning. My team doesn't get there that often so I'm not really bothered

Manston airport sitting there empty and unused, plenty of space there and jobs needed in the area.

Only a decent rail link needed and it would be viable.

Yes lots of demolition. There's lots of petitions against it from all the farms and businesses that would all be gone including my own work place.

margate sumwear by the sea

I just don't get y thay r bilding a new airport and destroying homes wen Thar is a perfectly usaball airport down south with 2 runrays 1 of them being 1 of the longest in England and it can take a lot of frate air traffic from both main airports.

Just reopen manstoun airport.

It's cheaper and easyarr.

Can't the guvoument see this.
