"The simple answer is there is very little that can be done as "tougher sentences" will not be a deterrent to stop people carrying blades. Look at the culture of violence in the world. Films full of violence, video games where you go around stabbing, and attacking people. Television and video gaming is a massive part of why society has become more violent. If anyone believes that the constant bombardment of violence and aggression on TV isn't a massive factor they are deluded. That's why they are called television (tell-lies-vision) PROGRAMMES, be ause they are programming the mind." I totally agree de sensitisation to what we see films are far more graphic and realistic than 10 years ago. The link between graphic violence on computer games films and the Internet has a big factor in the current situation.

"Kids have no respect for authorities, and it certainly does start at home. A lot of parents are so lazy these days that their offspring are going through life with little to no discipline. When they grow up they are Jeremy Kyle show fodder at best, many end up as jobless layabouts who take drugs and are always involved in violence. Society has changed a lot over the last 35 years, and not all the changes have been for the better. There is no discipline in the schools, it is all down to parents, you can't give them a clip round the earhole anymore, and they know it. Then there is the mental health system, which is another failure of society. People are walking the streets that are so unstable that they are dangerous to themselves and others. It's a sad state of affairs. " The role of the Teacher is to educate not discipline by hitting a child, I went to school in the 60's and 70's and the old cliché of a clip round the ear is rose tinted spectacles to that bygone era.. Nuns used to lay in to kids with their hands or the cane, it wasn't conducive to a good learning environment.. and yes there are many issue's that the broader family, local community, society etc need to be addressing but violence as a means of gaining attention did not work and will not address the issue's that Teachers face..

It is very easy to change people's behaviour by images, sensory input and peer group input ( or apparent peer group) Interestingly, it is easier to make people's behaviour more violent ( which is to do with removing boundaries to behaviour ) than to make people less violent; which requires building boundaries and structures of behaviour, and which needs to be done by agreement, and reward, not force. Severe punishment is seldom effective. Actually, " Clockwork Orange " explores this theme ( and shows a forced " rehabilitation " eventually failing) - the book explains it better. Many human psychological experiments have shown how this works. There are numerous academic volumes on the subject.

Schools are bloody useless these days, the kids can do whatever the hell they want, because they are not dealt with. The ban on corporal punishment began during my last year at school. I remember three teachers got assaulted in the first week. It had gone from being a strict school in a tough council estate, to an undisciplined mess, and it is still the same. Sure there are mainly good kids who are there to learn, but they are disrupted by the behaviour of those who are not. It's always been that way, but when the naughty kids are taken out of class and punished, order is restored.

"The answer is to demonise the spoon. Ban them from sale for anyone under 18. Put up posters to say how uncool they are to use and watch as kids put down knives and try to get their hands on spoons. Then there will be no knife crime, but spoon crime instead."

The escalation of weapon uses in kids fights do seem to tie in with tv action movie censorship, and computer games. As long as TV can show people being hit with chairs, baseball bats, knives, even grenades and walking away uninjured, kids will think it's OK

"Decriminilise other pointless laws and give harsher penalties for carrying them in public, 3 strikes and its porridge for the next 25 years 1st offence = 5 years 2nd offence =10 years 3rd and final offence = 25 years " So what would you give a chef on his or her way to work with a full case of knives? sod the 3 strikes, pull a knife or screwdriver in a fight, 25 years minimum, add time for any injuries actually caused.

"“I took him to eat and ordered large for him in everything. I knew that wouldn’t have eaten properly for a few days. I asked him where he had been, he said he didn’t know just a place with trees and country lanes, one place he said was a sea-side. "My next question was to find out how much did they pay him. At this point he tried to change the subject; these were his ‘family’ they would be there for him until the end and that was worth more than any riches. I persisted and in the end he told me they had paid him nothing, nothing at all. “I drew comparisons with the people in the restaurant and even asked the waitress how much she was on an hour - £9.15 - minimum wage doesn’t seem like a lot but when you are in a crack house for two to three days at a time and getting paid nothing except promises it makes sense to do things legit. Even at 14 years of age he got that.” Initial meeting with a young man in a gang. " Sobering

"Tell them to fork off Joking aside. Banning a weapon only changes the choice of weapons they carry and it can't be policed properly. I think harsher sentences and less luxury in prison's is the solution. If you let bad behavior slide and moan about it while doing nothing to tackle it then the natural progression is for it to escalate " Totally agree harsher punishment

"Chef on there way to work different than a teenager with a knife tho " Exactly the reason that a law saying x type or length of blade is illegal to carry falls short, criminalise the act of attacking someone with a deadly weapon, not the knife which may be a legitimate tool. The way the law is written at the moment, if I get stopped on my way to the woods, it's OK to carry an axe, a hatchet, a chainsaw, and any screwdriver I want, but if I have a 4" lock knife in my pocket that is illegal...

Not asking for much are you " it's not that hard really. educate people on mental health disorders, like sociopathy, and properly educate people then we can see what's really wrong with our societies and why we won't cure everyone but we also have the means to not tolerate any form of violence upon and person. educate them properly on social issues and mental health so we can see why society is the way it is and why some accept what is happening and others do not. but zero tolerance for violence is the main way. and letting everyone know their basic right is to be homed, fed, clean, warm, and cared for. our leaders can encourage all kinds of violence, push that sociopathic mental disorders are normal and should be accepted for the good of 'our' nation (really they mean their nation, their people). when this is all bullshit and not true. i accepted poverty was my fate at one time, that i didn't have the right to a lot of things because sciety taught me that as someone who didn't work, but was left to bring up my kids on my own thanks to actual violence, that we didn't deserve anything. i don't hold that opinion now and can't believe i used to think this way because leaders told me this and their sheep agreed.
