I'm curious.

Lost count of the number of times I've seen this statement on profiles, and confused as to what it means/what value it adds.

Is it [primarily]:

A. A statement of fact that has a purpose?

B. Just bullshit to give an air of 'experience'?

C. Something else?

Appreciate it may be be all three but keen to understand peoples' thoughts.

*goes away to make a G&T*

Don't have it on my profile....I don't think as I haven't checked before typing!

But it does apply as simply being true!

I've got mine down as I was here before under another username.

Deleted account as never thought I would be back. Only added so old friends knew it was me and could catch up from where left off from.

"It means that they don't need to ask daft questions. "

Not sure if this was sarcasm. If it was, I don't think it's a daft question.

Maybe i'll put it this way:

What would someone who has "been here before" know more about "how it works" than someone who hasn't "been here before" but has read the instructions/FAQ?

Fair play, that makes sense to me

it is normally from people who are fucktards who will complain again and again that everyone else on the site is useless...its a true fact.

"Maybe they read the Haynes manual?"

It is to try and stop timewasters using the usual nonsense they think newbies will fall for -

We are a couple but she's at the hairdressers just now.

I am straight, i just put 'bi' to get the ladies.

Yeah just drive 40miles, i'll definately be here.

Mainly i think woman and couple put it up, to try and stop the deluge of single males flooding their inbox with offers of derring do.

Brighton - even Hove!

I think they put that to imply that they can't be taken in by timewasters. Of course, if I were a timewaster, I'd see such a statement as a challenge.....

This profile is fairly new but I've been on here since 2011. If I was to say "been here before, know how it works" That should explain that I'm aware of fake profiles, picture collectors and general fucking about and I can spot it and won't tolerate it.

Generally I assume Option B; particularly when it's accompanied by whiny status updates about how poop the site is or hand wringing, waily forum threads says my "whyyyyyyyyy?"

I think the theory is that if they say they've "been here before" people won't have concerns that they have completely out of synch expectations of what Fab has to offer. This is not always backed up by their approach.

Or even worse are those that copy and paste some meaningless legal bollocks quoting US commercial code. You are in the U.K., using a British site. Quoting irrelevant US law is even more irrelevant when out of justistiction.

Glad I'm not the only one that notices this it makes me chuckle it seems to be all over the Internet not just fab. Particularly on social media users seem to think posting some absolute legal dross they are protecting themselves in some way.

sounds meaningless...I still like to post something similar on my profiles...it isnt about breaching my privacy but more about any instittution using my images to generate profit, to my detriment(losing a job etc etc), so basically sunday mail etc..you invade my privacy by pretending to be someone who is not genuine and wishes to profit from my sexual freedom.

If someone can be done for revenge porn, I dont see why I should be so different...despite the fact I show my pics publicy, they are only intended for people who have my sexual outlook.

Sadly I don't believe this protects you in the slightest. I appreciate where you're coming from and agree with what your saying but putting these things in your profile has zero legal standing.

I'm going to caveat this off with I could be completely wrong and I'm by no means qualified to advise on this stuff just giving my opinion.

If it makes you feel safer fill your boots

Yes, I can see the desire for protection too. However nothing you write on here will give you any further protection. If you wish to put something on then the most relevant law would likely be sections 33 & 34 of the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015. These are the sections to do with distributing sexual images on someone against their consent. I am not a lawyer but I would say that putting them on here would infer a level of privacy to be expected in the eyes of the law.

You may have noticed that the headlines in the press about the dinosaur shagging images from a member on here have now moved on to 'she is the victim'. I guess they are looking to peruse whomever distributed them under s33.

it might not legally protect me..as much as a character witness can...

add things up...if an institution invades your privacy with no legal grounding to use messages or content you display, that do not breach any legal vviolations..if that said body starts using your content to your detriment(Iam an ex nurse so I know about the codes of conduct), basically IMO nobody should freely publish pics of you round the internet/papers etc with the aim to cause distress, financial loss..

and yes that includes celebrities etc- I barely could give a toss who jordan shagged last week or whom she didnt...but if I go n try shag her with a fake name/profile and distribute things she probably wanted between me and my fakeness...for extortion purposes.I'd say that grounds for bending the law to my side as opposed to me doing something illegal or a threat to society.

I've seen it so often but the users usually seem amongst the most clueless going. Trashy profile that says little, photos that aren't much better and cavalier attitude. I think it puts people off if they have to start from scratch, with someone who left and rejoined.
