I know this might sound like I am moaning... and no not as in ooohhhmmmmahhh. But why oh why are the chat rooms on here soo clicky, went in to a couple last night.. said hi.. and no one said hello back.

I mean I don't have 2 heads and I think I can hold a decent conversation.. or am I under the illusion that people chat in chat rooms?

from my experience sometimes the chatrooms move very fast, and people can miss somethings. however keep trying and jump into convo's as it does work, well did for me

I know what you mean about chat rooms, I just thought I hadn't got the hang of them. They seem to move to quickly for my typing and noone speaks to me

they could be doing something else at the time, should say hi few times n they may notice it

I have ventured into the chat rooms a couple of times now and have had an acknowledgment when i say hello but seem to have just went in at times when theres not a general discussion going on, not sure what the best times for a good auld natter are, any of the regular chatters care to advise?

We use chat alot, the others are right it does move very fast and unless you keep chatting a hello all gets missed. Jumping into a convo helps gets you noticed and then you can move on from there, look for us we'll say hello

i have only been using general chat since December,and have found it very welcoming and friendly,however it is like any community,

Here is an example i used before...

You move to a new village(there are roughly 6 -800 people online so village sized.)

You decide to go to the local for a pint,itting at the bar you say hello to a few regulars,they nod back and return to their conversation.You chat for a bit with the barman and leave.

Do you think,"unfriendly feckers,they did not top their conversation with their friend to welcome me with open arms,i am never going their again!"

"Seems like a nice place,the barman keeps the lines clean,i will go back,make my face known"

Next time you go in,a few ppl remember your name,by the end f the year you have joined the leek club!

If you came into General and no one aid hi,i'm sorry,but chat can be very fast and ppl are talking to friends,no more cliquey than any local pub.The way to be treated as a regular is to be a regular,and that doesnt mean being there every night,jut not expecting to be noticed the first hi you say.Join,in,crack a joke,ask a question,

I tried the chatrooms, a while ago now, it all moved far too fast for me to keep up, besides to need to invest a bit of time to sit there and chat, so now i use the forums more as i can post a message, then log off, something else

and come back to it...i did find the cams very interesting though..

The advice here is good stuff. I found it far too fast at 'peak times'. If they spot you the Mods almost always say hello and welcome and some other chatters will say 'Hi' but many will be in private chats or involved in ongoing conversations that you will never catch up with. Some of the chatters know each other and it is only natural that they will banter between themselves. One bit of 'advice' I might offer is try chatting at the quieter times and maybe try to start a conversation with the room in general e.g. what do you think of [something current] - TV show, news headline etc.

Personally I prefer the Forums. Much more sedate for an old monk like wot I am

I agree its nothing like my local pub I find it hard work and to be honest I would rather talk by pm or in the forums I have better things to do with my life than spend 2 hours repeatedly trying to jump into conversations and being blanked completely and I have tried a few times.

well, it's true to say that the chat rooms are not to everyones liking, I often find the forums have their own clique of regulars, and as far as I am concerned, well done to fab for providing us with so many opportunities and avenues to meet like minded people, altogether......group hugz, mwah, xxxxxx

I think people like me can be part of the problem in chat.

I'm not a regular, but when I do come in it's to see friends, to have a natter, do some leching then move on. if I see a chance for a joke I'll make one but I'm not the world's best meeter and greeter. I'm usually listening to music as well, and chat does move very quickly, so it all gets a bit hectic for anyone who isn't aware of the subtexts, running jokes and interlocked friendships.

However, I have met fantastic people by simply going into chat and seeking a chance to make a joke...

To be honest I find the chatrooms a little silly and pointless....there are two women and about 50 guys all trying to get her attention...can't make head or tail of it...although yesterday I was in there on cam with a lady friend but was oblivious of any chat that was going on ! lol

Thank you for taking the time to comment, I have to say.. although I know I can be gobby, I would also find it hard to jump into some ones conversation.. it just seems so rude some how.

If I knew the people in there it wouldn't be too bad, but with people i don't know it would feel like walking up to people in a pub I have never met and joining in with their conversation. ahh well maybe the chat rooms on fab are just not for me, or maybe I will try when its quieter xx any way.. thank you all xxx

I know what u mean about the chat rooms lol, i shud know i go in a lot, but not in here as yet, i did look last, nite, and it did seem to go quick in there! Prob helps if you can type quick lmao!

As to it being "Clicky" its prob just peeps who have met and become friends which is great for the site, but needs room for us newbies also! And believe you me if i looked like u i wouldnt be on here, try not to take things to heart and you'll be fine xxxx

We're two of the regular chatters in the general room, you might find it better to try first thing in the morning or sometimes early afternoon when it's not quite so busy.

Nighttimes can be madness there and a lot of lines can very easily be missed.

Chat dont work for me they go too fast and cant keep up and if I have pm up then get inundated with pop up windows saying hello. And miss a chunk of the conversation. Much prefer the quieter slower forums.

Put you web cam on then you will have hundreds of men wanting to chat to you lol. No seriously the chatrooms can be hard sometimes. I don't think they are cliquey per say but when you have 200 people in one room it is hard to have a conversation one on one. The best thing to do is read what people are chatting about and join in. I know when I am in the chatrooms normally if somebody comes in the room and say hi they will get a lot of people say hi back especially if you are a single female or couple.

Just turn of pm. You can set if for no PM's or only friends can PM you.

Also people in the chatrooms come and go. I was off fabs for about 6 months. When I came back most of the people in the chatrooms were new to me. So at some point everybody is new to the chatrooms. Just take your time and join in.
