"I tend to string them along for a little while before passing them to my electronic fraud team (me again) We had a bit of fun with it too.....it is surprising how long it takes before he put the phone down." It's a quiet time of year for me now so I've spare time to yank their chains a bit

"For the last two days persistently I have received calls saying they are from the Microsoft Corporation and my PC is coming under attack from viruses. Microsoft doesn't hold home telephone numbers of its subscribers to my knowledge do they? Is someone just duping me into opening up my computer to them? " When you hang up do not dial out for another 20 mins/half hour. and run your virus scan. And down load the latest update for windows.

"A Mr David Smith from Microsoft with a very Indian accent called me to tell me I had a problem with my computer and said he could fix it. I agreed and said I would just switch my computer on and left the phone on the table for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes he was still there, I told him my computer is a little old and takes a while to log on. I left the phone on the table for another 10 minutes. I checked again he was still there. He then asked me to go on to some website which would ask me for my card details "for verification only" At this point I asked him if he knew what a phone tracker was. He said "yes" Great I replied, because I've tracked your call. At this point he told me he wanted to fuck my wife. I asked him if he was on Fab. He hung up. Reported to fraud team. "

" Definitely bogus unless you know you have bought some kind of support package.

" What I don't get is these scammers come through on a UK Tel No and yet OfCom can't trace them!! Those numbers are rented out to someone. Just cut them off!

What I don't get is these scammers come through on a UK Tel No and yet OfCom can't trace them!! Those numbers are rented out to someone. Just cut them off!" They use Skype phone mostly; skype calls come to a central number ( or numbers) in UK, And and similarly numbers in each country (Skype rent the lines) so it appears as a UK call. If you reverse search the number you will find its Skype or another of the " free " services. So you can't trace it to a foreign source ; and Ofcom can't block the number.
