Laser tattoo removal

Want to get a tattoo covered up but was advised to have some laser removal sessions first to make the cover up more successful.

Me being me I've done my research and have made alternative arrangements due to no swimming for x amount of time and blah blah.

Has anyone had this done successfully or even unsuccessfully and want to share their story?

Considered both, ended up going for the cover up, only advice would be to get a reputable artist and don't be afraid of getting a design that's quite large so that they can do their thing and work magic....depending on where it ISVs of course!

Oh haha thought you meant laser tattoo removal silly me!

Well my tattoo is/was on my upper arm which is a bit hairy and my shoulder (which isn't haha)

Tattoo guy just basically shaved me and got stuck in, it's no different in that regard to a "normal" tattoo

I've had a bit if laser removal

Mainly due to having a cover up, what I wanted wouldn't cover the old one without bits showing so I had two options have the one I wanted and have the bit from the old one still showing removed via laser or pick a different tattoo that would fully cover the old one so I opted for laser treatment

It's still quite expensive if you go to a qualified person though there are some cowboys out there doing it much cheaper so do your research

And I'm not going to lie it hurts, it burns for a few days after too in your first two or three sittings but your skin gets used to it after that

Took around eight sittings before mine where totally gone and I'm happy with the results, its left a tiny bit of scaring in a few places but you have to really look hard to see it, I doubt anybody would notice if I didn't point it out

Ah right... they just want to fade mine as it is black writing (sons name... left alone in Dublin one day, I got bored, got a tattoo I immediately regretted but typical man, didn't have a rubber!!!! ) So have decided whilst I have some cash to get it sorted. So you got the cover up tattoo too? How did that go?

I had mine done the other way round I had the cover up done first, then they lasered the bits still showing from the old tattoo, that way they just remove exactly what needs taking off, I can't see the point in sitting through having the whole old one off that's just more pain and money that's needed

Plus it would be really painful to have a new tattoo over lasered skin

Yeah it went well to be honest, I read an article which said there's quite a high percentage of people who have their first one covered up then go on to far more detailed pieces, pretty much what happened to me, original one was about 3-4 inches, cover up is heading towards a full sleeve soon!

I've had two cover ups, but only had a tiny bit of the old tattoo left on show, I opted for skin pigment colouring over it instead of removal (it was in a very awkward place).

My freind is currently having laser removal on her chest/breastbone, 3 sessions in its fading well, be aware it's advised to keep

It out of sunlight during the process, and although it stings for a while, it looks worth it.

Problem being the cover up is a red poppy so it won't work with the writing which was why they recommended the removal... if it works really well, I won't bother with the cover up tattoo... I think it's a suck it and see thing

Which is why I chose now to get it done lol didn't want to waste the great British summer aka Kestrels. Anyways lol

I've heard the pain is akin to an elastic band being pinged in your skin...

Thanks

To be honest that's exactly what its like, only the ping is sharper.

I had two sessions of laser removal needed for a cover up. The tattoo itself was quite old so two was all I needed to dilute the colour enough to be covered up nicely.

When the laser first hits your skin, it looks like miracle and then whole area goes white. But soon after the pigment returns and you think "Bastard"

I had a guy who came to my house and did it, 50 for each session. It worked for me and although having your skin blasted with a laser constantly for 30 mins wasn't my kind of fun, it got the job done nicely

I was told it was like having an elastic band twanged but iv had 4 lasered and believe me it's not. It's just like a tiny blow torch and the smell of burning flesh in your throat lasts for hours. If you look on my Instagram steevo3 you can see what to expect but having said that the end result is well worth it..just preparing you that's all

Yea I have it pegged as 'no fun Saturday' but will plug myself in and bear the pain as it was my own stupidity that has got me to this place lol

Thanks for replying

If that's what you experienced, then I'm sorry to inform you whoever did the work did not know how to use the machine correctly.

They clearly had the machine dialled up way too high for yourself. There should be no blisterting or burning after treatment whatsoever.

I've had 2 lazered so that I can have them covered over without having to go darker than the original, definitely the better option as I've seen so many cover ups where you can clearly see the existing tattoo underneath

Initially it hurts like fuck but you very quickly numb to it.

It's a long process with the 6-8 weeks between sessions

It usually takes up to 6 weeks to break down the ink, I've had lazer at a few different places and they all say a minimum of 6, maybe they are just over cautious

I've never had laser tattoo removal but I've had laser scar removal and I've also had tattoos covered. Both with excellent results.
