We are both professionals, and we are quite comfortable with the description. We've worked hard to achieve it and like to attract similar people although it doesn't necessarily mean we discriminate against others.

It's a very simple word which can be used, either way, as a rough filter.

If you don't like it, don't message us. Easy

Genuine question, what do you class as professional?

Degree educated, £40k salary and above?

It's no judgement, just purely interested as to how people discern between professional and unprofessional?

In my opinion the distinction is a professional works sitting down using their brain and a non professional works with their hands.

What used to be called tradespeople back in the day professional meant well paid whereas now it is the trades who earn more.

It's a fairly standard word that's used to describe someone who does a professional job. On dating/sex sites it might be used as a filter for those who feel they might have more in common socially with someone who is also in a professional job. I've noticed on Fab it's not considered politically correct to use that term, perhaps because it comes across as a bit classist or snobby.

Well that comment proves my earlier point!

Professional can be subjective. I have spoken to people who have felt professional is degree educated, some who feel it is blue collar employment etc. The dictionary definition would merely say it someone who is engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as an amateur.

The offical meaning is:

Relating to or belonging to a profession.

or

Engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as an amateur.

It normaly also requires the membership of an organisation which overseas said profession.

I have professional & non professional friends here on Fab & in normal life & never notice a difference between the two in them as people, some high powered jobs do cause stress & this sometimes leads to drink or drug dependency to cope but again this can happen with non professionals.

You get good & bad in all people & if some are drawn to a certain type because they think that professional degree makes them somehow different why should it bother anyone else.

When any well mannered respectable people regardless of their professions are naked we are all the same.

Personally this is why I don't pay any attention to professional on a profile. I've had just as pleasurable meets with intelligent, interesting and respectful "non-professional" bin men and retail workers as I have lawyers and doctors.

I've been mindful not to judge on jobs since the recession, and again with the oil and gas downturn. I appreciate any hard working person who earns their keep and pays their taxes.

I can understand why somebody would state a preference for meeting "professional" people.

I wouldn't use the term "professional" myself because although what would typically be considered professional people tend to have many of the traits I find appealing, those traits are not exclusive to "professionals" and I wouldn't want to exclude "non professionals" who also may have the same traits.

I think there are possibly more effective ways to filter people.

Can you sign a passport, if so you're a professional, that's our understanding of the word. As for swinging it's just one descriptive word, just one of many indicators to the type of people you're likely to be meeting. We always assume that when a profile says "professional" it means they are in very well payed, full time employment, have an "above average" standard of living, well travelled, cultured, own a very big house (all paid for) well respected in their community, articulate, obviously highly intellectual individuals, speaks the queens English, minds their "P's n Q's" Voted Conservative and never drives a car more than 2 years from new! "OP, you are stirring

They are putting it on their profile because is a way they wish to describe themselves.

I've found these threads an excellent filter in the past - I don't want to meet anyone who has such an enormous chip on their shoulder that they have a shit about someone else daring to be proud of their career achievements. And they *all* come crawling out of the woodwork with their inverse snobbery, right on cue "

Yep!

"Why are so many people so upset about this one word?"
does it really matter what your job is? If someone was drop dead gorgeous but was out of work would that really put you off? Professional or unemployed. We are all here for the same thing. It doesn't make anyone any better.

"Genuine question.

Does anyone actually care if someone doesn't have professional on their profile?

Seems everyone has an opinion if it is on the profile, curious about the other way round. "

Could care less. I go by the profile text and message.

"I can understand why somebody would state a preference for meeting "professional" people.

"Some traits do conect to a persons employment & education as our friend who is a dom & adult baby nanny only ever gets professional people visit her, not many builders or bin men want to be adult babies it seems so yes traits & divisions are apparent."

Why I personally have never felt the need to put "professional" on my profile as only professional men contact me for my kind of play.

Maybe builders and bin men do have that fantasy, but they can't afford her? "

People get paid?!! Now you tell me!

It would if you needed to travel/pay for hotels. I wouldn't meet someone who couldn't go halves.

I don't know many builders or bin men that can afford professional sex workers at all though - seeing a sex worker is a serious luxury. So it's more likely a cash flow thing than a wild speculation of what sex you enjoy because of your job.

(Indeed I have played with several people

In low grade jobs like you mention who were also into age play. I can confidently say after years on the scene that there's no corrolation.)

To the majority yes but to some no, i usually humour these few smile & move on as its fairer to both parties.

Me & Kim travel all over the UK with work socialising with unemployed people to gentry, all lovely people all very different but mainly down to their personalities not educational achievements.

Some will miss out on life due to their discriminations but its their life & their choice why should others worry.

A while back me & Kim was invited to a "vanilla' party at the House of Commons & in conversation one of the guests seemed surprised when i told him I had previously been a civil servant & had worked there for 5 years, you can never truly know a person unless you spend some time getting to know them.

You get social problems & Jeremy Kyle antics in all classes, we are all no better or worse than anyone else.

The dictionary says ... "one who is engaged in a profession."

A profession is "a paid occupation, especially one that involves prolonged training and a formal qualification" so not a dustman...

It can also mean "an open but often false claim"

So let us put "professional" to bed and cool down.

"I've found when people said on a profile they're professional it was normally used to explain why they had no face pics, as in I have a high profile job can't risk it. Don't see any other point of putting it tbh unless it's to infer wealthy status? "

Wow! What a thread! And how much controversy!

I found the above comment the most in line with my thinking: "professional" doesn't state anything about status, salary, wealth or posh. It doesn't indicate to me anything about preferences.

For me "professional" is just a way of saying "I have a job and they can't find out about me being here". Hence discretion is required and I can't tell you much in public about me. That's all! Nothing more and nothing less

I don't see what the fuss is about...

"We are both professionals, and we are quite comfortable with the description. We've worked hard to achieve it and like to attract similar people although it doesn't necessarily mean we discriminate against others.

It's a very simple word which can be used, either way, as a rough filter.

If you don't like it, don't message us. Easy "

Great response.
