Im not flush by any stretch of the imagination but knew i had to do a food shop this morning.

Sainsburys were giving away anything from 200 points to 5000 nectar points with each £10 spent...

I spent 12 mins at the self service scanners paying for my shopping in £10 intervals and managed to get 8000 Nectar points :D

Works out to be £40 towards Crimbo..

Was it only extra points if you spent £10 and not points per lot of £10 you spent in one transaction?

I'm on a budget of about £20 week personal spending money cos I got defrauded a couple of months ago and I'm trying to get back flush.

Yeah if id have purchased my shopping in one go id have gotten the one points voucher.

It could have been 200 points or 5000 points.

Mines always in my purse, Sainsburys is the local supermarket so makes sense to carry it on me at all times.

The extra points also works on fuel.. so you could spend £10 on fuel... do the food shop,, go back and get another £10 of fuel.. :D

That's brilliant!

I do a similar thing in Boots when they send vouchers for loads of points if you spend your money on this or that... I just buy everything separately and save my points for Christmas

How much are nectar points worth? As I don't bother with them if they are just 1 point per pound, I do like to collect my boots advantage card points though.

I told my mum about this and she has got herself £30 worth of points :D

Sainsburys last year also offered a 'double your points' thing closer to xmas where instead of points being worth £10 they would make it £20..

If they do something similar thats £80 i could have got from them for nothing

Yes Nectar points are £1 means 1 point.

I shop there loads and often getting vouchers for 300 extra points,, get 80 points if you buy a certain product... They will give out 5 times Nectar points.

Its only because it is my local supermarket i use them loads,, much like others have a tesco clubcard.

Oh and the petrol station is BP and i get points on fuel too.. oh and ebay purchases.

All tots up nicely

I'm not a spendthrift but I've never taken notice of offers and haven't bothered with a nectar card, as I rarely shop and use Morrisons most of the time.

I know people who have gotten days out with Tesco points.

I have no idea what my Morrisons card gives me.

500 points is worth £2.50. You can spend any amount of points in multiples of this.

If you have got multiple vouchers for extra points like the OP has then you can only redeem one voucher per transaction (no minimum spend to redeem). The vouchers for extra points are valid until 30th October.

The amount of bonus points you get on your voucher is completely random. They are giving out vouchers until close of business tomorrow.

I wish I could be more like you - I'm completely rubbish at saving money in any way shape or form!

Yep. 10 vouchers means 10 separate transactions.

For future reference if you do the same thing again you can use the vouchers the same day.

A bit hard to explain on here but if you buy the first £10 of shopping and get a voucher you can use it straight away on the next tenners worth of shopping. You don't have to come back another day. You would just be left with the voucher from the last tenners worth of shopping.

That's good to know. I got a

voucher today then noticed I had to buy something else to redeem it. Thought I'd have to wait till another day.

I heard on the radio that someone got an old pair of trousers out of their boot, tied the legs up and used that to put their shopping in. Saved 5p on a carrier bag.

If you are buying gifts for Christmas they should be doing a "double up your points" event too at some point in November. I don't know what the dates are yet.

You swap 5, 10, 15 or 20 pounds worth of points for a voucher that is worth twice as much. You can spend it on specific departments in the shop, such as toys, clothing, electrical etc.

This means your £40 worth of points could buy you £80 worth of stuff. There are some rules though. You can only get one voucher for each department so you can't spend them all on just toys. Customer services in your local store will be able to explain it fully to you when it happens.

We had a morrisons card purely for filling up when we had an lpg car, it was surprising how often we got those £5 vouchers back, seemed to tot up a lot faster than the tesco points did where we did our actual shopping at the time.

I used to do that with Boots. I LOVED my boots card. I LOVED it. I used to get all my more expensive makeup from there with my points.

Then I discovered that they pay little to no corporation tax. That was it for me. I have a rule not to shop in places that pay little to no corporation tax as a result of tax avoidance. (I must admit I can't break the Amazon habit. I need to find alternatives.)

So, in winding down my points. I've got £1.58 left on it. On second thoughts I think I'll just chuck it.

Btw if you get a lot of prescriptions from the doctor, take it to another chemist. Any chemist, but not Boots. The incident of making mistakes in fulfilling prescription correctly is high enough to cause concern. Please Google 'when boots went rogue' and 'Guardian'. It's a long read but worth it.

If your credit history is decent you can/could get 40k nectar points with their american express card, but only if you get the ad come up on their webpage. Otherwise you get 20k but still not bad. It costs £25 for the year but you earn that back pretty quickly so cancel the card when you've fulfilled the requirement for the points
