What car is it? Might help.

Depending on what it is, try disconnecting the battery and leaving it for a bit.

P.O. Box DE1 0NQ

If it had been a bike, I might have been able to help you, as I stripped every one that I owned (about 27) down to every last nut & bolt

You've never actually said if you managed to put them back together again.

Yes"

How sure are you it's the ecu? Have you checked the fuel pump fuse for instance?

Are you certain it's the ecu?

I had a lot of problems with my focus losing power or cutting out altogether.

A lot of issues can cause similar symptoms.

Google it and start with the cheapest fix first. I replaced coil pack, plugs and leads, mass air flow sensor and finally fuel pump. Replacing or fixing the ecu is very expensive (more than my car is worth) so it was worth trying everything else first.

Could be worth getting a diagnostic done first though.

If you look up click mechanic you can get a local mobile mechanic to come to you and do a diagnostic for about 40-45 quid

You need to download an ecu reader from the net; plug your laptop into the car with an OBDII Cable and read what the ecu fault code is.

Or take it to someone who knows what they are doing.

If the ECU has shut the engine down it usually means it has detected a fault which could destroy the engine if you restarted it.

You haven't filled it with diesel by mistake, by any chance?

No it's petrol"

That's my point: have you put diesel in a petrol engine ? ( hundreds of people do it every day) the ecu detects it and stops the engine.

Are you a member of a breakdown company and if so do you have homestart. They would give you an instant diagnosis and probably more reliable than people trying to guess on the net.

The year is 2000 and it just died as if it ran out of petrol and the plugs are bone dry

Right 1st off when you turn your ignition on ie your dash lights come on you should hear a faint buzz for a second or 2 it is faint so really listen. If there's no buzz in the drivers foot well the kick panel just right of your feet has a hole in it. Inside is a cut off switch. Stick your finger in and see if it clicks if it does try starting again. If no click in the fuse box under the bonnet check all the 10A fuses in fact check them all in case it's not had the right fuse fitted. Try that lot and let me know what happens

There's a guy called Mike. He's got his own firm. I know of him through Word Of Mouth. I had to look Over My Shoulder though. He said my car was Hanging By A Thread and All I Need Is A Miracle! I said Why Me? Then asked him How Long it'd take? He said I need A Call To Arms! Let me get the lads in and take a look. I said Whenever I Stop it's like its Silent Running. He said I Don't Do Love and to Stop Baby. I thought that was weird.
