And most imports will have been priced and bought in $ or €.

£ has dropped 15% against both $ or €:

you know why the hike in prices has happened..... because most comodities are priced in $US Dollars......

and since the pound is in effect worth 20% less than it was... it means everything is more expensive!

so that "buy british" thing is , you know thats going to be a lot harder that you think.......

p.s that smartphone/laptop/pc you typed this on? have a look at the back and see where it is produced!!

p.p.s re smartphones/laptops/pc's oh..... and the prices on those have already gone up.... they did that without you noticing!!!!!

p.p.s hope you don't drive a car... oil is priced in us dollars...

p.p.p.s.... and tea, and coffee, and sugar, and most metals....

Especially as the low exchange rate has led to even more foreign investment in buying up property. Now, instead of buying one big thing, they are buying lots of smaller street properties (to hold and not even rent out) to get around the stamp duty.

Yorkshire Tea uses varieties of tea grown in Assam, Sri Lanka, and Kenya, blended to form four varieties:

that is assam next junction over from halifax, srilanka near barnsley, and the village of kenya, which is just down from scarborough....

so i was told.....

Yes, that was the EU's fault.

Weren't EU regulations on food standards meant to prevent that type of thing from happening though?

The thread is about the weakness of the pound, you have stated that it wil be worth it in the longhterm but are incapable of providing any argument that that will be the case.

I;m not sure what you are asking me to prove? It seems perfectly reasonable to expect people to provide some sort of evidence to back up their claims and your inability to do so speaks volumes yp the weakness of your stance.

My belief is that Brexit will have a devastating effect on the economy to the extent that longterm goals become a mute point. The drop in value of the pound combined with no sign of it recovery and no indication from economists that it will seems reasonable evidence that my point is valid.

So again I ask, how will this longterm recovery happen?

I accept that you and others wanted that and look forward to that. THAT is not what happens in these threads. Instead they descend into everything EU is bad and anyone who voted to remain should shut up and suck it up.

Debating what is happening, affecting us all, doesn't alter the fact this is the road we're on so why can't those who voted to leave at least acknowledge what is happening now and debate that?

Even their Kiss, Fuck or Vote Corbyn thread ended badly. They just can't be trusted down there

I'm not surprised, if those were the options. I actually think I'd rather shag him than vote for him

Turns out it was "Jeremy Corbyn: Kiss, Fuck or (Whatever the other one is)". The idiot who started it wasn't very experienced in such threads...

"This shit needs to stay in the Politics forum - I really haven't missed explaining things to idiots.

But it's just so easy to expose their idiocy. I've been finding it fun today

Likewise I've been finding the over the top reactions about Pot noodles and Marmite quite amusing.

A differing opinion which again, has no foundation. Please explain to me again what it is about the idea of laws you don't understand?"

Why should I bother? You've already made your mind up that I need lessons to tie shoe laces. Besides don't you have some Pokemon to go and play?

I'm not convinced anyone has even mentioned Pot Noodles except you

Where have you been all day then? There must have been about 5 separate threads on it.

There were threads on the general pot noodle / Marmite issue. I saw you make the same "Jeremy Kyle chavs eating pot noodles" comment on each, which tbh I thought was a rude way to describe Remain voters. "

Corrected that for you Ruby.

Well, all cheese and sausage is 'made up'.

Fantasy cheese and sausage. It's not really real.

They sell both in Waitrose. "

Well, Miss La Dida, we don't have a bloody Waitrose in this part of London. You must be well posh

"I'm stunned that the main argument in a political thread is that if we don't agree with you we're idiots?

That is how all the threads on the politics forum read now. Which is why I stopped going there.

"

I had noticed, didn't expect it in here though.

As far as Brexit goes some of us voted in more of us voted out. That's it.

We still cannot predict the future, only time will tell who got it 'wrong'

Not if you look at the demographic breakdown of the voting.

I hate these bloody circular 'debates' where everything boils down to posting 'make Britain Great again' and 'everything EU is bad'.

"

Fuck Britain, I don't want it to be 'Great' again. Last time it was 'Great' it was a cesspit of imperialist racism, sexism, and homophobia.

Instead I want the multicultural society that I feel at home in.

"time to buy british as some shops are now using the eu exit to hike prices...ps fuck French letters im buying british ones xx"

Yes that's exactly what's happening alright it has nothing to do with the plummeting value of sterling. The effect that has on oil prices, the cost of transport etc.. Not to mention the cost of any imports. If only someone had pointed out this might happen in advance. But yes it's just shops making a profit, there's no genuine financial reason for it happening, like sterling hitting its lowest value in 160 years, or anything like that

I think this comment is all the proof needed to show that you've missed out on the last few decades (and plenty more).

Globalisation is a thing. You can't stop it. Making us a minor player on a huge playing field is not a sensible option.
