Mold

Not just ipads, but many devices have sim card slots, and you can just buy a data sim for them

My Sony Z2 do a tablet with sim availability. They have pro office suite installed free too, which is good. You'll be able to get one cheap on bay as they are a couple of years old now, but there are 2 or 3 different versions of the Z2 (one with a cam, one with wi-fi, one with all+sim I think)

Can you still use your phone when doing that? I'm sure I recall trying this and it pretty much turning my phone into a router while my laptop was connected, couldn't receive calls etc. I'm not exactly hot on tech so may be something I did / that can be overcome.

your mobile network isn't designed to handle a laptop you may get internet on it but it takes a lot more effort which is why I'd did what it did a tablet is absolutely perfect to teather I do it all the time and never have problems with my network although being a mobile network it sometimes bumps me off 3G/4G when I'm talking to someone on the phone but not always tho

I got a free tablet when buying a sim contract. Just go and ask.

East Grinstead

Some mobile phone plans don't allow tethering and with a tablet temptation to use lot vof data will be higher.

Tabelets with built in SIM slot are freat but another option is MiFi devices e.g the 4GEE WiFi

Get a mifi (or similar) and a PAYG 4G card. Faster than many people's broadband!

I agree that you need to ensure your mobile phone plan would need to support its use for tethering - otherwise they can charge extra, for out of plan usage. That's not technical advice, just mobile cost info.
