I often delete what I type as I know I'd end up banned. So I just stick to the non controversial threads.

We have said this from day 1.

Absolutely masses of negative, bitchy, passive-aggressive, and downright rude people here.

They pass it off as banter or "well they asked a stupid question", but new posters will obviously make mistakes and take time to get the status quo and find their feet.

I just KNOW when I see some usernames the comment will be negative.

ALWAYS the same people.

We are really positive people and always try to be kind, understanding and nice, its hard as we could unload on here with some of them but they'd just play the victim and round up their little pack of wolves to defend them.

As others have said its the BEST filter.

If we saw them at socials we would know who to ignore.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Unfortunately some people fall foul of the predicted text...

Others are full of foul language and just cannot help themselves.

Then there's those that seem to get off on insulting others and thrive on the responses they receive...

That is the cross section of humanity that makes this site, fortunately the good ones far outweigh the idiots.

A forum on a scuba site, there was an issue with rude idiots being abusive..

One person started the following which soon caught on...

As soon as a rude comment was made, the next poster would post "no more comments, blog closed"

The thread would then be restarted under a new name..

Eventually the minority of rude posts stopped because they were not getting the response they wanted.

I'm only aggressive or sarcastic or whatever towards people who I feel can take it. I'm not going to leap all over a new poster for making a mistake or posting a thread that's been posted loads before, for example.

That said, I don't really appreciate being told what I can and can't post (so long as I am within the confines of the rules) and it puts me right off being "nice" to people. There's been a direct correlation between my level of cuntiness and the level of posts telling people to be nice.

As some others have said, the forum can be great for adding to 'private notes' or even the block list.

If people can't hold a conversation, or just blurt out the first potentially offensive thing that comes into their head, how are they going to be in person?

We would like to meet people who are fun and also aware of other peoples feelings.

People should be nice, some people find it difficult to be, and post accordingly.

Have fun people xx

Your missing his point.

I could start a thread about the increase of posts telling people how to use this forum. But that would be just another negative thread about people pissing people off.

Don't be a white knight. Don't Hi-jack a thread. Don't be aggressive. Be nice etc..

If somebody wants to do something in a public forums. Then it's their prerogative to do it. If they want to bad an arse they can be. Stop trying to make the playground your playground.

If you don't like it, go and play somewhere else.

We tend to judge people by the tone of their posts. The pleasant and friendly posters get added to the 'one day hopefully' list. The aggressive and confrontational posters get added to the 'never in a million years' list. We have had some nice messages from people who had brilliant profiles but when we looked at the tone of the things they posted it put us right off.

There's a fine line between being rude, offensive, taking the piss & simply saying it how it is, going against the grain so to speak.

I don't advocate taking the piss out of people, I also don't see that much which I consider offensive posting on here, given the amount of threads that are started on a daily basis.

I went to a strict Catholic all boys school when I was growing up, full of bullshit banter passed off as a joke or whatever, it always got to me though. But it made me think and I think it's impossible to stop it from existing, there will always be knobs, dicks, twats and tits in the world hell bent on pissing someone off.

I think it's how you chose to let it affect you if I'm honest OP.

When I started reading this thread I was all for grabbing my pitch fork and chasing the trolls out of town. But then I remembered what I learnt from my school days, turn the other cheek, who cares. As long as you are nice to others you'll be surrounded by people who are nice. They are the ones that matter. Does it really matter that there are knobs, dicks, twats and tits in the forum who get their kicks from being assholes? Not really in the grand scheme of things.

Sending you a hug though, sorry they are getting you down.

Maybe there should be a buddy system on here, and the senior buddy can go and inflict some sort of retribution on trolls to the junior buddy.

which is that some people are very quick to play "victim"......

some people see insults and offence when they aren't there,

and some people have a style of posting that is different, some are fluffy, some sit on the fence, I get told I type in a straight forward and blunt manner... i just tell people i call it like i see it and don't slurp to win popularity points....

Correct.Your posts put your point across well, in a non-aggressive conversational style. Nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion, that's what makes the world interesting.

Some people (not you) struggle with how to do it in a sensible way. It's a social skill picked up through life.

Lot's of people just expose themselves as having very poor social skills.

Do we want to meet people like that in real life - no. Do we want to meet them swinging? NO!

that is the power of the written word, and the perception of the way you receive or see it.... some people may see something as being "way too harsh" where others will see it as "fair comment"

so to say that everyone should be "nice and fluffy" in replying is only going to have an adverse effect and basically is only going to rub people up the wrong way

that is why i think you have seen such a backlash in the last week

Telling people they "must be nice" isn't constructive..... nice is going to mean difference things to different people......

for example.... the "how can i make my profile better" threads are a classic example people people are going to approach it from different avenues...

some people "sugarcoat"... other will just say what they feel needs to be said..... and both could justify they are being "nice" whilst other will look at both and say they are complete crap!....

The people who say its all a "joke/banter" etc need to think how they would feel if they were new and a bunch of strangers started taking the piss mercilessly, ganging up on THEM in a place they though they would be made welcome. (Awaits oh I'd take it as a joke as I've got a gsoh bollocks).

I'm not a "forum hero" etc i just know right from wrong.

So you'd punch someone in the throat, but I'm the cunt for making a sarcastic comment? Right.

Yes if people were being as disgusting to me as people were on here to some I'd punch them in the throat. Maybe spinning bird kick them chun Li style and do a haduken on them for good measure.

Lets not chat anymore though, I'm far too violent and your far too sarcastic (smiley face emoticon) (banter/joke) blah blah blah.....

Violent assault is just hilarious to me, so I'm happy with your suggestion. (Sarcastic enough?)"

A little more sarcasm would have been nice, but thanks for the attempt.

"i think there is an other side to the issue that needs to be addressed as well

which is that some people are very quick to play "victim"......

some people see insults and offence when they aren't there,

and some people have a style of posting that is different, some are fluffy, some sit on the fence, I get told I type in a straight forward and blunt manner... i just tell people i call it like i see it and don't slurp to win popularity points....

those are just called really life.... you aren't going to agree with everyone on every position on every subject!, and people need to undersatnd if they have to mere audacity to disagree and say so... it isn't an all out attack on them, their man/womanhood, their character, and everything they hold near and dear......

"Can't stand all these people who say "oh it's all in jest, a joke, banter" etc.

No, it's only a joke for you lot who troll people, for the person being trolled its not funny. It's only funny if your making the joke, not the brunt of the joke.

Easter just around the corner!

"

There is a way of disagreeing though without being a complete cock about it,some people just do it in a nasty way.

that is the power of the written word, and the perception of the way you receive or see it.... some people may see something as being "way too harsh" where others will see it as "fair comment"

so to say that everyone should be "nice and fluffy" in replying is only going to have an adverse effect and basically is only going to rub people up the wrong way

that is why i think you have seen such a backlash in the last week

Telling people they "must be nice" isn't constructive..... nice is going to mean difference things to different people......

for example.... the "how can i make my profile better" threads are a classic example people people are going to approach it from different avenues...

some people "sugarcoat"... other will just say what they feel needs to be said..... and both could justify they are being "nice" whilst other will look at both and say they are complete crap!...."

True, but I think it's clear when someone is just being a cock for cocks sake

I get where the OP is coming from, but I also don't really understand these debates. It's the internet....people are dicks to eachother, people suck up to eachother, people are fluffy and cunty and every other adjective. It's not really going to change and I find the constant calls for niceness and accusations of cliqueyness just as tedious as the nastiness and trolling.

Of course I wish the forums could be a bit more productive sometimes, but I also accept that people's desires on the forums may not allign with my own. If I didn't like them overall, I wouldn't be here.

I think the forums are great for banter, but as in real life there are always dickheads from both genders

It's nice to be nice, civility costs nothing and never take yourself or others too seriously. This is supposed to be fun

Have good craic, meet some cool people, have a laugh and if you're lucky some awesome naughty fun too

Well I find the constant calls of nastiness and trolling far more tedious than the calls for niceness!!!!...in fact I don't find trolling and nastiness tedious I find them dam right distructive and very hurtful

Ok. I guess I just dont let trolling and nastiness on the internet hurt me. I find the whole idea of telling others how they should be, aside from following forum rules, tedious, whether that be nice or otherwise.

The only way a person like this gets off and continues is if you choose to let it hurt you. Treat them like a mushroom, keep them in the dark and feed them shite

Ignore and they will get bored and look elsewhere for a reaction. Life's too short for bullshit and wasting time and emotion on rseholes...

What we need is some sort of emoticon that illustrates Harry Hill and his 'FIGHT' sketch. That daft music would help too.
