Does anyone on here get involved with it?

Just struggled to wrap up some shoe boxes and they are now ready to be filled with all kinds of age appropriate goodies

Ive been buying bits for ages now.. just have to sort it all out and put it into age appropriate boxes. Never sure what sweets we can put inside them.. says 'wrapped sweets'.. but is that individual sweets or the whole bag unopened?

Not heard that myself and would be a shame if it were true

I've heard that too, or at least that they rifle through the boxes. This year we will be doing the opposite advent basket. Each day we will put something in and on Christmas Eve take it to the church/shelter.

I put things like the big bags of starburst in mine, sealed and the sweets are wrapped inside. Cover all angles lol

Never heard it is a scam or they riffle through boxes, would be a damn shame if that were true

They dismantle the boxes, so the articles that you include don't necessarily go to where you think they should, many items then get sold on to raise funds for a Christian political focus group, which is very right wing.

Our school do something similar for the local food bank and send parcels to the women's and baby's refugees instead. I happily support this as we refer people to this food bank in work so I know it's genuine.

From the link above.

"Operation Christmas Child is run by Samaritan’s Purse, a huge and zealous organisation led by Franklin Graham, son of the famous evangelist Billy Graham. Not only is the organisation openly homophobic, it seeks to proselytise in a manner that most people, including liberal Christians, find unacceptable.

As a humanist, I am naturally disquieted by the idea of people performing evangelical work with the intended purpose of conversion; but I am positively offended when this work is performed at the expense of vulnerable children in desperate situations across the globe.

Several other charitable organisations and reputable businesses, including the Cooperative, have withdrawn their support for Operation Christmas Child. The charity Save The Children has

questioned its effectiveness and expressed concerns about the use of evangelism in the context of people in need. Some leading teachers’ Unions, including the NASUWT, have pointed out the difficult position that schools are placing themselves in when they support such charities without giving careful thought to their stated mission."

Sorry OP.

not sure if it is OCC or not but there is a beautiful video on facebook showing the sheer, unalduterated joy that these boxes bring o children in africa....the sound is so beautiful, such excitement and happiness bought by a box full of things we would consider as stocking filler presents, discarded by boxing day.
