If a car is on your drive and not being driven anywhere, in theory you wouldn't need insurance.... that said if it was stolen or some how someone did crash into it, you'd not be able to claim.

Talk to your insurance company, they very well might insure you in both cars at just administration fees.

Any car that is not SORN legally has to have insurance, the difference is your very likely to get police knocking at your door if it's in your drive.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Get her to see if she can get an extension for a week. That might be easier and more straightforward. You can have as many policies as there are cars.

since when.. as i used to have any number of cars on my drive that I was rebuilding or ripping bits out of. Only had to insure those I was using..... but aware rules change.

Although i dont think one day will make a difference..

It has to be declared as SORN to be out of insurance now. There's a fixed penalty fine of £100 now otherwise. As the system is now fully automated the issue will be who gets fined as the paperwork on change of ownership will not go through as quickly.

Were the cars you were working in SORN? If so you don't have to have insurance, if they haven't been declared off road then you should have tax, insurance (guessing MOT but not insurance).

Put her car on your drive and declare it sorn. Insure it at your leisure then.

I am a Broker...if your daughter hasn't cancelled her policy yet, get her to add you as a named driver to the policy until you are ready to take ownership. Alternatively you will have to call your insurers add a second car on transfer the NCB from your car to the new one and just reduce your cover on the existing one to lowest possible. X x Message me If you want for more info.

So go with option 2 add the car to your policy temporary cover.

sorted and not too painful - transferred the insurance from mine to hers and then temp cover for mine for 2 days - cost over 30 quid admin fees to transfer the policy over and under 25 for the 2 days - could have been worse

the car is fine on a drive with no insurance but it does have to be taxed the dvla can clamp your car even if its on a drive without being sorn.

Since the continuous insurance legislation was brought in; whereby a vehicle must be insured at all times, whether it's being used or not.

The exception is SORN; where a vehicle need not be insured ( though of course, if it is then stolen, you won't be covered.

Also, even a SORN vehicle must be insured if it is kept on public land.

Off the road is fine as you cannot effect any 3rd party but if you're were damaged maliciously or stolen during those few days you're fooked
