Has anyone ever been caught up in a hurricane or a tornado, a work colleague is in Florida right now and he is a little bit nervous lol. I have always wanted to go on a tornado chasing holiday I know its a lot of money and your not guaranteed to see one oh and the chance you might die, has anyone ever experienced one first hand? We had a tornado in Birmingham a few years back but I only spotted it from a long way off.

I was still living in Birmingham when that happened. Although I was miles away on holiday at the time.

I was once caught up in a tornado in Canada, it was a very scary experience as I had no idea whatsoever, I thought it was a bad rainstorm I was driving into until I noticed a car in the middle of a field and trees blocking the road. Thankfully a car going in the opposite direction to me stopped and told me to follow them as the tornado had past but it was coming back.

The adrenalin kept me going but it's not a position I want to find myself in again. I don't get called Calamity because my name is Jane!

must of been a scary position to be in especially as the tornado's are much larger over there.

Been in many cyclones when I lived in Asia they were always exciting and enjoyable to be in until I remembered that every cyclone would result in deaths.

My ex husband and I was on our 2nd day of our honeymoon in Mexico (2005) when hurricane Wilma hit. We was evacuated with all other holiday makers to a church in the mainland. Was only allowed to take one pillow - told we would be back the following day. 6 days later still in the church and finally a coach arrived to rescue people. Was taken to the airport (straight into the runway, no passport control) and taken to Dominican Republic. Was told plane needed to rescue others so only short flights to safety could be made. We were there with only the clothes we had on for a further 4 days. The drive through Mexico to the airport was awful, everything was destroyed, huge hotels and shopping malls flattened. Lost all our luggage but least made it home. X

everyone thinks about the excitement until you realise the human cost nature can be so destructive at its worst makes you realise at times how vulnerable we truly are.My mom had a house built in Thailand but decided to have it built inland because of the tsunami it killed everyone she knew along the coast.

Cocoa Beach

Thursday night, Friday morning, 97 mph winds. Not a common occurrence but something I've experienced numerous times through the decades. The "freight-train" description is accurate. Not too fun on the 2nd floor feeling the entire building shake. We were lucky as Matthew eased just 10-15 miles east & spared used 140mph winds. That would cause incredible destruction. As it is, trees & power lines down. No water or electric in many places for days. We were fortunate.

Oh it was terrifying, I was for once glad to get home to the Scottish wind and rain.
