First Love

Some time ago there was a thread about first loves. I put a comment on about a girl called Katherine. I hadn't really thought about much over the years as I got married , kids , divorce ! But she sometimes crossed my mind. So I thought I would try to see what she was up to. I did the usual searching. Facebook , twitter , etc. No luck at all. Then last weekend I went to Sunday lunch with my daughter and she happened to ask if her mum was my first love. I was honest and told her no and talked about this long lost love in the early 80s. Thought nothing more about it. Just a nice conversation between father and daughter. Then a few nights ago she told me she had found her. She to is divorced and living back in the UK and said that I should get in touch. Now I'm not looking for advice as I know sometime soon I will....but I wonder if we have changed so much that those teenage days should just remain as a memory ?

this happened to a girl mate at work recently - he found her on fb and they met up and went for a meal and a drink or few- they still had loads in common but never going to be more than friends now - so yeah go for it nowt to lose

I've met up with my first love as a result of facebook, there was a bit of the old spark there but she hadn't really changed and I'd moved on so although I'd have shagged her, it just didn't seem right, we remain friends and that's all it'll ever be.

Was worth finding out though as prior to that I'd held a candle for her for years so glad I could get some closure there.

Go for it chap; the worst that can happen? Well is there a worst?

You reminisce, you recall your youth (never a bad thing), you find out what happened to others in your social circle, you reconnect with a part of yourself and a friend.

The only thing I would caution is managing expectations; go with the right mindset... catching up, reconnecting, reminiscing.... and then who knows.....

Well I bit the bullet and sent her an email with my number. 10 minutes later Katherine rang. We chatted for a couple of hours. Catching up and reminiscing. Like myself she is divorced. Like me she has two children. She named her eldest son James after me. Although she never told her then husband. She looked me up a few times but never had the courage to make contact. She told me that her ex use to knock her about and she often day dreamed about what might have been if her parents had never moved to New Zealand.

So next weekend we are meeting up for in London for dinner.

Contact her if you can! I lost contact with my first real love 26 years before we found one another again! Both of us had married, had kids and divorced. We are now 6 years into our relationship and 4 months newly weds! I e never been happier

Well I'm just home from London. It went wonderfully. Katherine was just as I remember her. Yes older but still the same girl. When I knocked on the door I admit I was very... Very nervous but that just disappeared once I saw her again. We chatted the night away. Caught up on our lives. Then at some point we both fell asleep on her sofa. I woke up to find her snuggled up to me. I asked why she didn't just get herself to bed. She replied that she was scared I might be gone in the morning and just wanted to be near me. So we had breakfast and then ww kissed properly for the first time in over 30 years. She kissed as I remembered. Then made love. Not the fubblings of two teenagers but two adults who wanted to be close. We agreed to see each other again and so next weekend she is coming here....I better tidy up !

Me neither, time has moved on. My first love was actually unrequited as I never told her. My first proper love married a few years after we drifted apart.
