Well, it's been reported ....

I don't think I'll believe it until there's DNA evidence to back it up. Not sure the world will be a safer place either as there will be no shortage of nutjobs waiting to fill 'the martyr's' sandals.

One thing for sure - I'd not fancy flying to the USA in the near future. Oh yes it's 'All hail America' for the time being. The yanks are their usual vocal selves woop woop, and all the usual overblown American celebrations, but just wait until there are more terrorist attacks on American targets, we'll soon see who's dead and gone. Maybe he is dead, maybe he isn't but one thing for sure, someone else will already be doing his job and plotting against the West.

Lets just hope that when the Yanks become targets that we as a country keep our noses well and truly out of it .....

Bolton

The body had to be burried within 24hrs of death to fit in with muslim law and lets face it the US can do without adding insult to the muslims by not following this rule. Rather clever tho having a burial at sea to stop the burial site becoming a nutters meeting point.

Not really. Why? This isn't Iraq during the First Gulf War with the airmen shot down....

Quite apart from the adherence to Muslim tradition, there is a risk that it will be (what's the right word for a corpse) stolen/kidnapped. It's done and gone before most people know so that there is a reduced risk of trouble.

That's what they say - but only to keep the mohammedans happy. In reality he's probably going to be preserved in spirits in a glass tank in the CIA HQ basement. The Russians used to bury dead mohammedan terrorists wrapped in pigskin - which these people believed would keep them out of paradise - and let it be known the same would happen to any others, as a deterrent.

Whatever has happened to this vile man's body, it's great news and we should all rejoice. Hope the rest of his gang get the same rough justice!

dont think Obama would be so stupid as to make such an announcement if he thought there was a chance "the real" Bin Laden suddenly appeared on al-jezzera declaring he was still alive - that would be political suicide both at home and world wide

I agree with this and also Sassys comment about living in central London,Hubby works all over central London and has been lucky enough over the years to narrowly avoid many bombing campaigns

Precisly. HIG or the Haqqanis are more than troublesome as it is. The problem is, Bin Laden was a figurehead of one organisation - which just happens to be the only one many people have heard of. But there are many more operating around the world and they'll continue to be a problem for years to come.

I have hoped that OBL would be caught one day, but now that day has arrived on hearing how this has been handled I cannot help but feel a little uncomfortable.

World leaders have mentioned 'justice' and 'rule of law' etc. These are in my mind the core values that differentiate good from not so good. The 'good' and 'just' don't do things because they are convenient, the easy option is not the determining factor for those that value doing the right thing.

I'm happy he has been caught, but why was he executed? Am I being naive?

Not sure what point you're trying to make here. There have been civilians killed as a consequence of military action by coalition forces but I think they have stopped short of flying passenger planes full of ordinary people into buildings or otherwise using local people as human shields. It is also worth mentioning that most Iraqi citizens are glad that Sadam has gone. The guy was a brutal dictator that murdered and gassed his own people. Problem is, as was the case with Yugoslavia, he kept the lid on all the ethnic division and it is in fact rival groups of tribal based Muslims (Sunni and Shia) that are blowing each other up now and for the past few years - this is what accounts for majority of civilian deaths not coalition forces.

Thing is the religious extremists would have us believe that there is a world wide Islamic brotherhood waiting to take over the world and sharia law will rule all. Rubbish, the various groups such as the Sunni and Shia Muslims hate each other as much as some Catholics and Protestants do.

Actually according to the BBC as we know it al qaeda does not exist. The term al qaeda actually means the database. The al qaeda database contains a list of former mujahideen fighters whom the CIA funded to fight the Russians in Afghanistan. The CIA gave Bin Laden the codename Tim Osman. According to the BBC al qaeda has about 10 to 20 members at most. Bin Laden used to be paid by the CIA. Alo the bush family and the Bin Laden family have very close business ties.

To learn more go to you tube and search for al qaeda does not exist. It is a proper factual BBC documentary not some conspiracy theory stuff.

Indeed, these situations are always more complex than they first appear. A few years on could it still be argued that the Iraqi regime change was in the national interest of the Uk or USA? Perhaps we could have done a deal with Saddam for cheap oil?

Yes they are, but no more so than Al Jazeera when the two towers were bombed. You also say 'western media', where are you based then? Yemen? Or is it just that your allegiances lie elsewhere but your pay check or other income is better here?

Why do you question my allegiance?

Simply because you say 'western media' shouldn't that be 'the media'?"

the london bombings... 49 innocent people.. dead

the madrid bombings... 191 innocent people.. dead

the bali bombings... 204 innocent people.. dead

the Nairobi bombings... 212 innocent people.. dead

the september 11th bombings... 2936 innocent people... dead

the amman bombing... 60 innocent people... dead

the mumbai bombings... 165 innocent people... dead

and the list goes on.... and on... and on.. I haven't counted the various attacks they have committed in iraq....

i have been up since 4am when i got a million and one calls telling me i ought to be up to watch what was about to be announced...

I had a side in this... as most of you know i lost 6 darn good friends.... and how do i feel....

relief.... justice... a sense of pain for what they went thru....

I am not being funny but how do we know al qaeda done 9/11.

Osama himself denied doing 9/11. His official statement was "While I am happy it happened I or my men had nothing to do with it". Also the Taliban said to the US give us proof Osama did it and we will happily hand him over to you.

If you look on the FBI website about Osama Bin Laden it lists the crimes he is wanted for. 9/11 is not one of them. When a reporter asked the FBI why it does not list 9/11 they replied we have no proof Osama done 9/11.

So if Osama and al qaeda did not do 9/11 who did?

its an interesting question... so i looked up the font of all knowledge "wikipedia" and looked up Al-Qaeda in Iraq...

so in all the attacks they have claimed responsability for from 2004 to 2009... they have killed... at least 1856 people (and that does not include the 872 people killed in 4 connected car bombs which everyone believes was them)

so.... 2600 people, that would be a lot of innocent iraqi civilians to be killed by the colition forces to even catch up with the iraqi chapter of AQ

puts it into some prospective

Let's try a different perspectice on this shall we?

I recall a radio broadcast a day or so after 9/11. An American father, speaking of the loss of his son, recalled how his son, by all accounts a decent family man, took the weekly Boston to LA flight.

So that he could work for Raytheon. Who amongst other things make Missile Systems.

How many innocent civilians have Raytheon missiles killed in their time?

And the recent use of drones?

Apparently Western forced have killed over 1 million innocent civilians in Iraq. We also now know that Sadam had no weapons of mass destruction and we knew that.

Also we are going after Gadaffi but leaving Mugabi alone. I wonder why that is? Me thinks it has something to do with oil.

That video is fake. If you re-watch the video and compare it to a known photo of Osama Bin Laden you will see the difference. In the video Osama writes something with his right hand. Osama is left handed. Lastly the so called Osama in the video is wearing a watch. Wearing jewellery is forbidden for Muslims.

At the end of the day 99.9% of Muslims are peace loving.

The usual red herring of an argument. The use of drones, when it does go wrong, results in few casualties due to the localised and relatively confined nature of the weapon - its no cluster bomb for sure. It's designed as an intelligence led precision strike weapon. If the targets happen to be innocent civilians, which admittedly does happen then that is an unintended and regrettable outcome. The point is, mass murder of innocent non-combatants IS the intended outcome for Bin Laden's cronies, be they arms manufacturers workers or accountants or travel agents.

Not yet. EVERY dictator or ruling royal family in the Middle East is coming down. The Saudi royal family may think they are safe and all the uprisings happening on other Middle East countries won't happen in Saudi Arabia but they are wrong.

If you think petrol and oil prices are high now wait until it kicks off in Saudi Arabia and they cut of their oil supply to the West. At the moment Brent crude oil is $125 a barrel and rising. Experts are saying when it kicks off in Saudi Arabia expect that price to go to $200 - $300.

If you really want to know what is going on have a look at Gerald Celente on his you tube channel. He is the worlds top trends forecaster.

Yes there will be revenge attacks but Bin Laden's death is, nevertheless, a victory.

He became a 'mythical' figure in the eyes of his followers and those on the bandwagon. The view was that he was untouchable and the Americans will never get him. He was admired and used as inspiration for that reason.

However, he's now dead.

Another good film to watch free on you Google video is America freedom to fascism. It is made by film producer Aaron Russo. One of his other films is trading places.

In this film Aaron describes how he became friends with David Rockefeller before 9/11 happened. In it he says how Rockefeller tells him how they are going to have American troops looking for this mysterious Bin Laden in caves. Rockefeller was laughing as he told Arron this.

Also by the end of 2012 the dollar will be worthless.

2600 people in 5 years, terrible. Lets never underestimate that each of those people is a mother father son daughter. AQ is rightly vilified.

But....the IBC project reported that by April 2003, (in less than a two months period, it started March 2003), 7299 innocent civilians were killed 'primarily by U.S. air and ground forces' in Iraq alone.

Other reports would have you believe the figure is much higher.

Perspective? Maybe.

You are sort of right. All these uprisings in Middle East countries have been funded by the US. The aim is to disrupt the oily supply so the price of oil and petrol skyrockets.

Another things is when the dollar dies next year all these middle east countries will be pissed off as they trade in oil in dollars. These countries are going to go from being very rich to being very poor and in a very short space of time. Well unless they start dumping any dollars they have. Do you think they will be happy?

Most Americans do not know what is about to hit them. In a year or so most American will be going hungry. Not because of a shortage of food but because they will be too poor to but it.

In America currently 44 million families are so poor they receive food stamps (stamps off the government to buy food). There are also 20 million empty homes due to repossession and people being to poor to buy a home.

The price of a barrel of oil is not linked to the amount of tax on fuel the Americans impose on their domestic Market. I don't agree with your argument.

A good quote from Gerald Celente

"What a lot of people don't realise is we are now seeing the start of the 3rd world war. World war one didn't start with the killing of Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Sarajevo. There was a lot of small bush fires in the years before that. The killing of Franz Ferdinand and his wife was the main fire that kicked off world war 1. With the current currency and trade wars, the uprisings in the middle east etc we are witnessing the bush fires of World War 3. World War 3 is coming and you had better be prepared"

No you may think Gerald is a doom monger or just wants to frighten people but he just says how he sees it.

Gerald does not claim to be psychic or a prophet. He bases all his predictions on things like what the governments are telling us, what is happening in the real world, what has happened in the past etc. He has accurately predicted things like stock market crashes, the prime mortgage scandal, the dot com bubble, the dotcom burst etc. He really knows his stuff. All the top American news outlets look to Gerald when they want to know what the future brings.

the north american union

the asian union

all reasonably long term but some have gained much ground so far

really the world already exists in the single currency of debt

how is the dollar going to die next year?"

I don't know how much you already know about things so excuse me if I tell you things you already know.

Ok things like this get planned years in advance. This plan started in the 1970’s. George Bush junior passed a law in America to create the North American Union. It is similar to the European Union. It will be America, Mexico and Canada joined together. The planned currency is the Amero. Now when Bush passed this law he did not take it to congress or the American people he just passed it. He behaved like a dictator. The people planning all this know how much the Americans love the dollar and the symbolism of it. Thus they also know no way would the American people accept changing their currency from the Dollar to the Amero.

So the plan is to destroy the dollar and have the Americans begging the government to bring in a new currency. As I have said this was planned in the 70’s. Around that time the American government made a deal with the oil producing countries. America has a lot of untapped oil fields. They promised the Middle East counties they would not start drilling any new fields in America but only if they agreed to trade oil in Dollars. Remember when the Americans made this deal with the oil producing countries they knew one day they would be killing the dollar. They were having them off basically. Those countries are going to be so pissed off when the dollar dies and they become poor overnight. The true currency of the world is gold.

So back to what is happening now. The dollar is already dying and other countries are getting wise to it. I don't know if you know this but most governments will have reserve currency. Think of it as the government having a savings account for emergencies. Most counties have their reserve currency in Dollars. If you look around on the web you will see news reports of countries like Russia switching their reserve currency away from Dollars. They know the Dollar is dying.

Also in America prices are already rising sharply. This is not because of traditional inflation. It is because the purchasing power of the dollar abroad is decreasing. For example one week a pack of toilet rolls was $6 the next week it was $9. One week a bulb of garlic went up by 100%. So by destroying the Dollar America will have massive hyper inflation. There will be no shortage of food but most people will be too poor to buy it. By the end of 2012 the Americans will be begging the government to bring in a new currency and make things affordable again. As luck would have it they have a currency ready called the Amero. If you search Google images you will see pictures of the new Amero currency.

Of course after the **** hits the fan in America we will be greatly affected also.

and we well - we withdrew being chums - and took the huff

saddam said - is that right? ill give you a kick in the nuts then - and set light to our oil in kuwait

which was a real kick in the balls

and then he switched all his oil from dollars - to euros

enough was enough

911 and invaaaaaaaaaaaade - hoooray - the worlds 2nd largest oil reserve is in our hands - coom by ya me lord and all that

Bin Laden is dead so what one man dies and we all make such a hype about it what about the coutnless hundereds of thousands of innocent people around the world that have died as a result of phoney wars properganda and nonsense that these politicians all belch out.

I would not be supprised that in the next few days something is planned and that it takes effect big style with the help of the goverments and they blame this on terroists and knee jerk reaction to this will be us normal citizens who have no influence on policy or agenda haveing out civil liberties cut back even further and it gets even harder to survive becuse we stand up aginst tyrants and oppresive regimes the media is full of dirty tricks and manipulation.

On a parting note pre 1990 Osama was deemed a good man and ally of the USA he was a CIA agent whilst he had his use and was prepared to sacrifice his life in the american cause he was the man what he allegedly plotted there after was unforgivable but does no one mention that the Bush family recived 1.3 billion dollars from the bin laden family from 1990 to 2004 or is there money ok to have i wounder ?

Indeed Osama was a hero of the muhajadeen - a freedom fighter - and we loved him cos he killed commies - so we got help with israel egypt and pakistan to give him stinger missiles and better anti aircraft to destroy those nasty russian hind helicopters

"Glad he's dead. As Margaret Thatcher once said, rejoice.

i do not see any death ,even thatcher as reason to rejoice.Dehumanising ppl is the road to fascism.

The islamists are the fascists. They stamp out all dissent, kill opponents, kill other muslims and Christians alike. They show no mercy. Rejoice that their leadr is dead"

Rejoicing in anothers death may be something you enjoy,i shall refrain thank you.

There are extremist adherents of many faiths, the attitude that others deserve to die fuels them

"

"

lets narrow it down to our soldiers - who will kill and kill and destroy for a very simple reason - to get home - cos the bastard in front of them is doing the same

the germans the japanese - the vietnamese - were not all fascist devils - they all had family - they all felt as we do - love

they fought for their own goals and desires and needs - yet were the enemy to others

as every brit n american out there now is - they are an enemy - and they are in front of an enemy

their hearts - their laughter - their joy is all the same - on both sides those men women too - want to see their children again - want to be home

they are put in the position where they must kill to see that

its very simple to them - those bastards on the other side of the line must die at all costs - no matter what

dont you believe for a minute us good guys kill nice

and consider the partnerships of soldiers - not many if any will want to come home without legs arms or beyond recognition - and they rely on their pals to do whats right

so consider that as well in any soldier who may through a promise - have to not only kill the enemy - but make sure his mate goes home with a flag

not a nice position for either side to be in - despite the conspiracy - the bullshit - the politics - people are dying for it

but not for it

for each other and what they hold dear to themselves

and want to protect - its not fascism its not hate - its not racism - its the insanity of valour for any soldier

Taking it on yourself to go uninvited into another country and assassinating him wasn't an execution?!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm shedding no tears for Bin Laden - a very evil man, but let's not pretend it wasn't an execution.

Right or wrong to do it, this man had declared war and was training people against us. So no i don't call it an execution it was a military exercise for me. He died firing shots from behind his now late wife that's not a summary execution it's a fire fight.

Following that logic, was 9/11 a military exercise as part of an act of war too? Was OBL a terrorist or a soldier?

In my opinion 9/11 was an atrocity. OBL was executed in his home with his wife and kid.

I'm happy they caught him, but I wish they'd put him before the courts. As I said earlier, maybe I'm naive.

Bin Laden dead..How many times is that now..8?..9?. The first report of his death goes back to December 2001

Millions of dollars and the destruction of the tora bora caves and where do they find him? in his house.where it seems he's been for 6 years. a six foot five Arab and no-one spotted him.and then they quickly put him in the sea..yeah ok!

RIP Tim Osman

Conspiracy theories or not - if several dozen heavily armed and well-trained men cannot overpower one elderly man, a woman and a couple of kids - questions have to be asked of US not-so Special Forces.

The question of whether you actually have a weapon in your hand when challenged/ killed isn't relevant.

On the contrary, it's very relevant. If there isn't an element of self defence or fear of an immediate direct threat to the individual that shot him or his country then it's illegal under international law. Fact.

It becomes more difficult to prove an immediate threat from an unarmed individual, especially when your heavily armed!

The first part of my post was not my opinion, it's the law. That's why I used the word fact.

The second part of my post is my opinion, and is shared by a number of QC's.

I must admit, I didn't believe this at first as the Americans are notorious liars, but when they changed their statement and confessed that they had executed an unarmed, defenceless elderly man without trial, I was more inclined to think that they're telling the truth. Because they've already disposed of "the body" we will only ever hear what the yanks want us to hear, which is probably nowhere near the actual truth.

on a seriuos note not sure why people are banging on about "international law" where was "international law" when this guy ordered the slaughter of over 3000 innocent people in the twin towers and thousands of others of all races, religeons all over the world including pakistan and 57 in london on their way to work one sunny morning. make no mistake if he could have nuked any major city in the Uk especially London he would have dome so.

Whe the British PM came back from Munich waving a peice of papre on the steps of downing street saying "peace in our time" it didnt stop the jackboot crushing millions of lives and the holocaust in the next 5 years . If the yanks had gone and shot hitler there and then it would never have happened. at least they did something, where our PM cant even decide what he wants for breakfast !!

I also found the crowds chanting USA USA distatsteful but hey i havent lost a son or daughter in the inferno of the trade towers, or a brother or son in the killing fields of afghanistan. what bin laden DID do was bring home to the americans the horror of terrorism in their own backyard and made them face up to the eality of what was happening in other parts of the world. as a result the yanks stopped funding the IRA , that more than anything Blair did was bring that to a halt. Yes the yanks can be devious and ham fisted but hey lets be thankful we are their friends and on our side . these are dangerous times we need all the help we can get !!

'International Law' means pretty much whatever Uncle Sam wants it to mean at any given time and no amount of citing unnamed QCs is going to change that.

Over the years assorted US administrations have 'tolerated' the actions of Noraid, or the Israelis or ........... (fill in whatever you wish here) whilst condemning other stuff across the world.

I wouldn't be in the least surprised if there aren't Yanks in Libya at this moment looking for Megrahi.

Do they have any basis in 'International Law' for this? Probably not.

Will that stop them? No.
