Any phone techies on here?

I've searched through google and shit but it's throwing up dodgy software and not really being much help.

Can you repair a water damaged iPhone (actually shampoo damaged from being in a swimming bag and shampoo leaking on it)

It's been broke for over a year, won't turn on at all, nothing happens if you plug the USB lead into a laptop.

Is it worth paying to dismantle it and see if it can be fixed or is it truly fucked?

I have a new phone so it's not to use the phone, I need old messages from this old iphone4.

wouldn't hurt to dismantle it, it's useless after all at the moment. there's videos on youtube and i haven't attempted this myself as it looks hard. maybe removing the shampoo from parts then putting it back together could work though.

all 'free ware' will probably have viruses, paid ones probably would not have viruses but there's no guarantee they'd get your info for you, they tend to be around $150 too, i've never used one myself.

There's sites that say you can download a programme that recovers data from water damaged phones that won't turn on, dunno how they can do it when the phone is just dead.

At the time I dried it off as best as I could and put it in a tub of rice and left it in my airing cupboard but still wouldn't turn on. Is there like replacement parts you can get but will still keep the data that's saved on the actual phone? All the messages would be on the actual phone.

if where the data for texts is stored isn't damaged then it's possible to get it back using a software that can access and interpret texts, even if the phone itself won't come on because all the computer has to do is find that data and read it.

the free softwares are just adware or malware that infects your computer for the uploaders profit and gain, these tend to automatically connect to the internet when you do and lag your connection, some even wreck your computer altogether.

take it into a shop and ask them, they could physically look at it and give you an opinion, don't think that would cost anything either.

I used to repair iPhones for a living if it helps.

Easy to dismantle, but water damage is water damage sadly, you either get very lucky with it OR you get a very expensive paper weight

If it's been broken for over a year, it's not going to come back to life. It's unlikely that software will recover your data in this state. Unless your computer recognises that you've plugged something in. You could try EaseUs iPhone Recovery software, they do a free version, so you at least try to see if it can see anything.... They are a reputable company.

It is possible that a proper Data Recovery company could retrieve your files (if it's not encrypted), but they would remove the storage chip from inside and access it directly. But expect it to be pricey.

The best thing to do with a water damaged smartphone after finding out that plugging it in has no effect is to not plug it in again.

Unfortunately, due to the way that modern phones are made it is very very difficult (and sometimes entirely impossible) to repair water damage, as it's not the water that's conductive it's the residues left behind after the water's evaporated. These residues short out internal components sometimes making them not work until the residue is removed. Other times the damage can be irreversible and as someone above pointed out, you end up with an expensive paperweight.

Even if a data recovery company can remove the storage chips from the phone, there's no guarantee that they'll even be functional let alone recoverable.

Shorted out smartphone batteries can also be horrendously dangerous so if I were you, I'd not attempt a repair yourself unless you're well versed in electronics repair.

Sorry the outlook isn't much better than that!

its an iPhone the only thing you can do with any iPhone is to shred it there a complete waste of time

Not liking to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you backed up your phone to iCloud (iPhone I presume? If not, Google. I forget!) then I don't honestly think you're going to be able to get them back.
