Music is the answer

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

A recent study found that over 70% of the lyrics in pop music are related to the pain of breaking up with ex's/ infidelity/ otherwise broken relationships and generally about the shitty side of love.

With this established fact, it's no wonder increasing numbers of teenagers are diagnosed as depressed. Some are even listening to goth music.

One solution is surely to introduce them to more positive styles of music. People that post on the Internet have suggested that following ideas. There are unconfirmed reports that MPs might, possibility debate them in parliament one day:

- School classes should start with one pupil playing an uplifting trance song to their classmates

- Assembly should start with the headmaster giving a comedic rap (freestyle if possible)

- Formal music lessons are to be replaced with happy hardcore DJ lessons

- The school day will end with a collective dance to either the Macarena or Whitfield - Saturday Night.

Do you agree with the proposals put forward by armchair experts?

"Haha brilliant! Bring on the trance sessions!"

Parliament will need to appoint a committee of experts to determine exactly which type of trance. We could have, acid trance, classic trance, uplifting trance, hardstyle, euphoric trance, tribal techno, balearic trance, progressive trance, female-vocal trance and of course let's not forget psychedelic trance.

Tough decisions need to be made.

i love emo music, those miserable lyrics with a miserable singer to an euphoric tune are pretty good, some sings are deep as well.

nah, people don't need to be shallow and think they should be permanently happy, it's ok to have feelings and sad ones at that.

If the Trance didn't make me top myself, the happy hardcore would put me over the edge.

Now a bit of funky house in the morning, to get them in the mood. Some vocal uplifting house for the 2 o'clock slump and then some funky techno for going home and you'd be on to a winner!

Maybe it just needs to be pointed out to the stroppy and emotionally sensetive teenagers that 100 years ago kids left countries around the world and never returned home because they were off being men in someone elses war.

As for kids in school...i was bought up with "wait till your father gets home" words that scared me senseless. A smack didnt do me any harm because i had done something to deserve it.

We live in a day where a firm hand seems to be non existance. Where kids are given more thoughts, feelings and options than they know what to do with.

Let a kid be a kid, dont weigh them down with life choices at young ages....they have their whole lives to be grown up

The experts note your proposed amendments and will vote on them before the first reading of the bill in parliament.

Well I'm sorry to be objectionable but kids have to make choices. We can't play the Macarena and Saturday Night at the same time now can we!?

Or are you saying we need to limit them to just the Macarena?

Being a moody, miserable, self obsessed little shit as a teenager is an important rite of passage. Smashing Pumpkins (particularly the album when Billy Corgan was getting divorced and therefore even more grumpy than usual) was my soundtrack to this. I'd rather nice quiet moody teenagers on the bus than loud, happy, hyper ones.

Smashing pumpkins sound like a CIA plot for population control. It just needs translating to a few more languages and we'd see declining populations in the developing world.
