It's actually poisonous, I wouldn't recommend it to anybody and I certainly wouldn't give it to someone who wasn't aware...not that I'm suggesting you would.

True Spanish fly causes blistering of the urinary tract, vagina and rectal passage...apparently. If something contains cantharidin it will have a blistering effect, that doesn't mean to say that every product labelled Spanish fly will actually contain that beetle.
