It's an old Celtic festival celebrating the beginning of summer.

Considering the present weather, for once it's quite appropriate! lol

plymouth

Beltane is the coming of summer and fertility. Nature is in bloom and the earth is full of fecundity and life.

Beltane marks the start of the growing (fertility) season in the way Samhain(sp) marks the end.

I don't think you actually need to be anywhere near a tree to toast the success of the cider apple harvest.

"I do with hugh....

My hero "

I draw the line at his ethos of 'eating every part of anything you kill'.

90-95% ? Fine. The rest ..........

There's a thread (elsewhere) about what you can catch from unprotected munching on gonads or tongue.

I'd go further. I see no need to consume trotter, cheeks, tails and the like.

So what were the natives in your part of the world up to then?

Was it rioting, sorry, partying from dawn till dusk? Were there fires on the surrounding hilltops? Virgins being sacrificed??

Sorry, am I getting carried away?? lol
