How long have you gone without your mobile and/or internet since the year 2000?! I'm thinking of trying a week without internet first...then maybe a week without mobile...

When we moved in to a flat in 2010 the old tenant hadn't cancelled their phone line so we couldn't get internet set up until BT had written to her (at our address mind you) and two weeks had lapsed so they could cut it off. This left us for nearly four weeks without interwebs. Disaster and something that won't be happening again

I never have a time without my mobile and rarely without internet. I don't see any reason why I would want to cut myself off from people and work.

I'd rather detox from tea

Does anyone else think it's a bit scary how dependent/addicted we have all become to internet/mobiles?...

"I can't work without the internet."

Ok, fair point. How about non-work related use...how long could you go if you wanted? (I know you don't want to though)

I have to keep in touch with my family, so I need my mobile phone. Other internet related stuff would only be a couple of games I play, although I do cut music for my daughter's dance school and need my laptop and the internet for that. I also pay bills online and pay for school dinners, using my phone and the internet.

"Does anyone else think it's a bit scary how dependent/addicted we have all become to internet/mobiles?..."

No, it's called progress.

Most companies use online bookings, selling and information now.

We use the internet for homework, which the school expects them to do.

I would love to go live in the wilderness with nothing but a radio or my cd collection.

Failing that the sound's of nature.

We like camping and alot of the sites we go to have very limited /poor phone Internet signal.

It's great being off grid for a few day's.

Also seeing the kid's around the site discovering "outside" running around and playing.

I have been without in remote areas camping and also going abroad in early 2000s

I survived

Just but the BBC news website nearly got shut down due to a lack of visitors while I was gone

Well I'll agree it's progress on some levels but also on other level it's not...anything used for the right purpose is progress but things used negatively are not...just to be balanced!

What would using negatively entail? I use it when I need to, or for entertainment. I'm not planning on taking over the world, on my mobile.

My parents wouldn't let us get the internet until 2002, so I guess I went 2 years at one point

And every summer for years we would go to our summer house where we didn't have internet for over 2 months.

Nowadays I tend to leave my phone and all internet connections when I'm on holiday. So I regularly go 2 or 3 weeks without. I find it liberating.

For example replacing physical human contact with it. Also wasting time on it. Maybe you are using when you "need" it. But others, me included seem to be "addicted" to them...that's negative in my opinion.

2/3 weeks without sounds like an impressive achievement....holidays are a great way to fully disconnect...so think I'll be trying the same next holiday, thanks for the idea!!

Rotherham

I went the first 36 and a half years of my life without a mobile, so I could easily ditch that. I find them pretty useless, distracting and anti-social. I barely use it as it is.

I think since I got internet access (around 2000) I've barely gone a day or two without it. Though I'm not always on it long, I do find it has its uses.

In one go? Couple of days tops. Even when holidaying I'm plugged in for work.

However I often take a day or to and just leave my phone off or at home and drop of the face of the planet so to speak. I love it!

With how busy I have gotten recently, on some days I don't go on the net. Yes I still make a few calls and send a text to my sister and stuff to check up on the kids and what's happening but that's about it. I don't realise sometimes and I know I can do t if I wanted to but that's the thing, I don't want to lol

Easter just around the corner!

I know one thing my youngest is a lot nicer and more sociable when her's is on the naughty step for a while. In one respect my generation are so lucky we didn't have mobiles when we were teenager's as the amount of bullying that goes on between kids nowadays is horrendous.

Would you say doing a crossword puzzle in a newspaper as wasting time? I use technology for my brain down time too.

Being on here could be classed as wasting time, but it has a purpose and I have nothing else important to do.

There was a lot of bullying back when I was a child, they just didn't film it or tell anyone.

I use to spend hours on Facebook before and never knew where my day went. Nowadays I go on If I get a notification or if I want to post something. Occasionally a quick browse when in bed but never too long.

I think when I realised I spent too much time on it and made a conscious effort to just stay off it I realised I gained so many hours of my life back and it's something I won't give up again.

The next hurdle is staying away from fab forums lol

Brighton - even Hove!

3 weeks when I was in France and didn't want horrendous roaming charges. I just left my phone at home. By the time I got back, if forgotten I had one.

Oh yeah I'm not saying there wasn't any bullying,it was just one way less of it happening. The kids who aren't brave and horrible enough to do it face to face do it over social media instead and then you get everyone else joining in. My daughters show me some horrible stuff that they write about each other.
