Money, not a naughty thread about the police... mind out of the gutter!

Had a little tidy up today, think it's the weather making me start to nest lol. Finally got around to collecting up all the coins from various places in the house/car.

Total hoard is £160 in silver (yeah I know, think how surprised I was). Also now have a bag of 1's, 2's & 5p's that weighs in at 15kg on the bathroom scales. Probably another £50 in that, question is what do I do with it now? Will the bank change it or just tell me to sod off? I've seen those machines in supermarkets but do they only give you a voucher to spend in a limited time? Any good ideas?

Amazing what you find.

I think the banks will take it if you bag it up.

We always used the machines in supermarket though because the banks opening hours conflict with our working hours.

They usually print off a voucher that you can cash in at the customer services desk. I can't remember what it is but there's a small charge for it.

Bag it up you have to pay it into your account then draw it out..

Metro Bank magic money machine does not charge even if you are not a customer

Just gives you a ticket you cash at the counter

We put all our change in a bottle through out the year. December time, we bag it up and take it to the bank.

There isn't a limit on how much you can take, as long as it's all correctly bagged.

Machines in supermarkets etc, usually take a percentage of the amount. You don't need to separate it or bag it up.

Not at our bank.

They weight the bags, total it up and give you the cash there and then.

Sounds simpler that I thought. Thanks guys. Can't remember the last time I was in a bank.

It'll go some way towards a kinky night out at halloween! x

As already said, bag it in correct amounts and take to the bank where they'll weigh it then put into your account then you can withdraw it if you wish. I asked why they couldn't give me notes straight over the counter as exchange instead of pay in/draw out. They said it was anti-money laundering practice. Fair enough but what criminal would want to take the proceeds of his drugs deal or whatever in coins then go and bank it using the little bags? Even more so for those engaged in football management's dodgy dealings. After all there'd be a lot of little bags of change for a multi-thousands/millions pounds dealings!! haha

If you bank with NatWest then they have coin machines in the bank like the supermarkets but don't charge. The money goes directly in to your account if you want.

I'm changing to your bank - which is it? Sound to be more user friendly than mine!

Make a little hand size slit in the underneath of the sofa/settee and pull out a fortune. Did that the last time we renewed our lounge furniture, Found a £10 note, and over £15 in assorted cash. Plus several biros, a USB stick that I had been looking for for youngths, 3 condoms still in their packs, a cigarette, we stopped smoking over 5years ago, boy did we look at that hard and long before crumpling it up. Enough biscuit/crisp crumbs to make a decent Apple crumble. Several cum stained tissues and a Madness CD, sad to say threw the case for it out many years ago.

Get some cash bags from the bank. Fill them up and then take them in.
