Both of us have been in bed, ill all this week, S has had a nasty chest infection and I have pneumonia. So all we've done is watch daytime Television -wow how very exciting !!

We've both been suprised at the amount of appeals from different charities for all manner of things from as little as £1 per week

For £2 per month, we can help a little girl in Africa, £1 per month we can sponser a Dog but for £3 a month we can help a donkey in India !

Looks like the Donkey is getting the lion share of the cash here - lucky donkey !

Donkeys have more legs than children...recon thats why they are more expensive. How much is it for a leper?

Which just goes to prove what a fooking con it all is!!

Does oatmeal and hay cost more in India than like-giving nutritional food would in Africa?

I don't think so.

Beware anyone who donates to these so-called charities, I've long held my suspicions about giving for the third world - how much has been raised to date?

I'm not saying that we in the West should let starve those less fortunate than ourselves but the money raised to help them needs to monitored a lot more cloely than it is at the moment.

Intil such time I will not line the pockets of corrupt officials so that I can get 20p in every £1 raised out there to help the needy. It's just not on.

We removed Sadamm Hussien because he was killing his own people so why can't we do the same to the despots in African war-torn countries and help the people to build a sustainable society that can stand on its own.

Now THAT would get my pound!

We've always thought that the first thing that should be administered to these drought and famine wasted countries is injectable contraception. We just can't understand how these poor people, some who are no more than human skeletons can keep knocking out children and adding to their problems. Surely when womens body fat gets below a certain level ovulation stops.(When Trace was dieting for body building comps, she went without a period for nearly two years). So it makes sense that the less children they have, the more food and water they have and hopefully after a few childless years things will ballance out again.Or are we being too simplistic?

It's a moral minefield when you raise the issue of forced contraception or even, dare I say, mandatory sterilisation.

Social problems created by humankind cannot be addressed by supressing our instinct to procreate. In many ways, even those of us experiencing the very worst of human lioving conditions can find comfort in the arms of another, however brief that feeling of euphoria can be - if we couldn't have children then what would be the point in a continued existence if all it served was to line some fat cat's pocket with our suffering.

little house on the praire

Ive always wanted to "adopt" an african child. I say adopt rather than sponser as you get personal information on the people and have one to one relationship with them.

I used to send my sons clothes to orphanages until my friend went to work in one for 3 months (cant remember the country of the top of my head) she enlightened me to the fact that there is no point sending good quality clothes and toys as these have already been taken before they get to the ones they are ment for.

I would give lots of stuff if i knew it was getting to the people i wanted it to go to, unfortunatly thats not the way of the world.xxkarenx

Donkeys get more than children per capita. Snow leopards don't do as well as donkeys overall.

Because there's no oil in Africa, or other resource to plunder, and no money to pay for the US rebuilding contracts for the stuff they blow up.

Also I'm not sure it would help anyway, look at how Iraq is doing right now.

Actually we plundered Africa long ago - mostly of people - upon whose labour many of our cities were built.

China are busy doing their bit throughout much of it now. Nice new infrastructure in return for minerals...

There's a fair bit of oil there too, it's a big place!
