Going off topic slightly but for me The Conmitments soundtrack version of Try A Little Tenderness gives the original a very good run for its money.

As for favourite Motown track altogether then as others have said far too many to mention....but the first that came to mind was Heaven Must Have Sent You by The Elgins

So many many more I could've named - including Marvin Gaye's entire "What's Going On" album, but as a stand alone song; This one immediately sprang to mind.

Costa Blanca Spain...

Very difficult to pick only one and all the ones listed above would be contenders for my favourite.

As someone else has said. Although she is a bit of a diva you have to take your hat off to Diana Ross. Some of the early songs with the supreme's (Baby Love, Love Child to name just a couple) was great work in the 60's. Later songs such as I'm Still Waiting and even her Bee Gees collaboration with Chain reaction (Don't think that was on Motown though) was very good.

Four Tops, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Jimmy and David Ruffin, Stevie Wonder, were superb and I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the Jackson Five yet.

However head and shoulders above the lot just has to be Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. They just didn't do a bad song.

This thread has got me all emotional now with memories of the Mecca in Blackpool. Happy days.
