Perfume is a nightmare unless you actually know what she likes;

The problem is that everyone has slightly different skin chemistry;

So what smells fantastic on one person can smell like tomcat's piss on someone else.

I avoid perfume buying unless I know what their favorite is, or go to the shop so they can try it.

Yes, very true, I don't know how some people can have dozens, I can only find one or two that hit the spot and feel right to me, and that changes over time.

No, no vouchers.

Vouchers are lazy, get lost in drawers or cost the giftee more...

People commonly make the mistake of buying a present for someone that they actually want themselves.

Think about what the person likes, does, enjoys.

Think about what they would like.

I appreciate vouchers myself. But yes it's good to be original also. OP does she like makeup? You could get her some illamasque stuff or MAC, or a makeup lesson x

Perfume is a funny thing to buy women. Some like a heavy perfume some like light

Some like a flowery smell, some like a citrus smell. Also for me there are certain ones I can't wear as they irritate my skin.
