have virus on laptop and my anti virus has run out, cant get onto internet to download one. having to use pc until i can get one, if anywhere open tomorrow with being easter sunday

so no doubt there will be a fight who gets on pc tonite. Any body any ideas???

use the pc and if you know the virus name - search the pc for the manual removal instructions

most are pretty straightforward to remove

there is plenty of free anti virus about avg is one of them.

to remove a virus from pc or lap top with it is best to do it in

safe mode with networking.

once you have update the program.

run the scan if any found it be remove easily an safely hope this helps

ok have now wrecked hubby's pc, have it on in safe mode, when trying to log on normally it ask for windows validation, but half of the code is missing

not really bugger it up

just yer xp is not illegal

to make it legal

you need 2 get a windows genuine software from some1. which will solve it

hi

this is to the origional poster who now needs more than an antivirus to fix laptop this should help fix laptop and remove virus............

if you can let me know make and model of laptop or google make and model,you'll be able to do a factory reset as most of if not all newer laptops ahve hidden partitions stored on the laptop

unfortunetly you will lose all data on the laptop but it will revert back to when you 1st bought it.

its usually ctl and f11 or f10 at start up and then follow the instructions and choose language etc it wont ask for windows code from factory defaults as its streamlined in.

there is a way to save your data 1st which involves a little more work on your part.you could run a live linux cd or usb stick and drag the data to that then restore laptop

i know all this sounds a bit daunting but if you get stuck you can message me and ill try talk you through it

anyway good luck and hope you manage to sort it

thxs everyone for the reply's ..outcome is friend calling tomorrow to fix hubby's pc as can only work in safe mode. As for my laptop well its went to the the laptop heaven in the sky, it is no more, my poor beloved lappy(as i called him) passed away last nite, it caught a virus at tea time and got worse as the night went on, he fell to the floor and was in pieces and like humpty couldnt be put back together again, so sadly i have to use hubby's pc which isnt half as good as what my lappy was.

laptop is now in bin, so when i get new one, hopefully this week i will do that thxs xx

bit like getting a car and not insuring it.

weve had norton for years on all three of our systems and for 3 its around 55 a year, and never had a moments problem with any virus etc

yes your right it can slow your computer down a little, but then any back ground program will to a degree, but if you get rid of those background programs that you never use then the difference is not noticable.

and as for getting rid, ive never tried but your prob right

Norten will only work properly if you how to use it, an how good your machine is, just not for a standard pc should read system specs

before purchase

many sales people who miss quoted users of this just trying on a quick sale;

an would advise all not to buy any until (use the free one first) your satisfied for your self.

the free anti virus program are as good as bought one its just how you no how to use it .

Sorry can't agree with you on that, Norton, McAfee & Kasperski have record of false negative reports, which in over 10 years using Avg then Avast I have never had. Think Avast is far superior to any of the paid, and it updates many times a day, which is not a problem on a machine with reasonably sized RAM & HDD.

whilst i agree avast is good it isnt known for finding unknown virus in tests only half were found where as the heavyer software is always looking for virus like behaviour, which is why they do slow your computer down alittle

actually Avast does have a behaviour shield, and it has found things previously that McAfee & Windows Defender missed, but each to his own as I am very happy with what I use, others will feel differently
