What is with companies using software to change their phone number? Is it to dupe people into thinking it's a local number? Or, as one guy responded to my questioning, it's to enhance signal for mobile phones?

I think the latter is bullshit.

It's most annoying, I find they always come up with a location on my mobile so I reject these now. I used to be able to block but now it's never the same number

I don't answer the phone, it means I'd have to interact with a hooman.

Central

It's a straightforward, old technological capability but companies are just working out how to fool and annoy those of us who don't want to speak to them.
