Sometimes you come across a cover version of a song which is bloody fantastic!

Now I'm a metal head but I came there through punk and two tone which is why I've just heard a cover of the shadows Apache by the ska-dows which is ace

What cover versions have you heard that made you go wow, that's brill?

The last one to do that to me I was sat on a Virgin Atlantic plane at JFK waiting for us to leave when a ska melody playing over the PA system caught my ear. As it was mid-verse all I caught was the lyric "you gotta stand aside, you gotta be denied" which I recognised but bugged me what it was till it hit the chorus....

Well I never much liked the original really, so I'm biased.

This version is less bombastic and brings out the "Indian-ness" of the central ring. It's slinkier and funkier - which is a good thing

Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is amazing.

I'd like to put a good word in for John Cale (ex-Velvet Underground and greatest living Welshman)'s version though.

His predates JBs by a number of years and is beautiful too. He was perhaps the guy who first realised what a beautiful song it was (when arranged properly, unlike the original).

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I saw Kubo with the children today (go, it's beautiful) and the soundtrack is Regina Spektor doing George Harrison's While My Guitar Gently Weeps. It sounds great.

It's much better than Bono's original.

"Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is amazing.

I'd like to put a good word in for John Cale (ex-Velvet Underground and greatest living Welshman)'s version though.

His predates JBs by a number of years and is beautiful too. He was perhaps the guy who first realised what a beautiful song it was (when arranged properly, unlike the original)."

Kate Voegele did a really nice cover of this too!

Elvis Costello's version of the Flying Burrito brothers Hot Burrito #1

Dexy's version of Van Morrison's Jackie Wilson said

Not better IMO but a bigger hit, if I remember rightly it was performed on TOTP in front of a backdrop of Jocky Wilson. Funny at the time
