I prefer mine hard boiled with salt on. Edwina warned us years ago not to eat undercooked eggs.

"how many raw egg drinks are there "

More than youd think (despite Ms Currie)

Me dad had raw egg and worcester sauce every morning... And I had mine beaten into milk...

Egg and whatever you were drinking last night as a hair of the dog...

Etc...

In a crisp poke on the A814

They are not dangerous!

If you are drinking fresh eggs you be fine....

Raw eggs products are different....always a risk the egg used to make it is not as fresh as should be.....

That made me feel nauseous! Fancied a fried egg the other morning, don't like "sunny side up" so flipped it. Thought white had cooked through when I popped it on the toast. Bit into it and the white wasn't fully cooked, it did look like cum and I vomited up the bit I'd swallowed! Yuk!

Chefs cant think raw eggs are that bad as they use them in mayonaise all the time

Have to say though the thought of drinking raw egg doesn't appeal to me!

Chickens are prone to carrying salmonella which can find its way into the eggs. That's why you always have to cook chicken properly but I believe the risk from eggs is much lower and raw egg is used in mayo, chocolate mouse, egg nog. I always use raw egg for chocolate mousse and never ever had a problem. My gran used to have a raw egg in a tomato juice an lots of worcester sauce. Mind she was a right old cow so maybe its not good for your temperament!

Thanks All...

I watch James Martin making mayo etc... But then see him getting quite precious about uncooked omlette in the challenge...

if sufficient acid (lemon juice or vinegar) is added to the mayo it will kill bacteria

Thinking about it, right from being a little kid I used to love scraping out the cake mix left in the bowl when my mum made a cake my kids do too. There's raw egg in that so on balance I think its reasonably safe.

Maybe when we were younger we and everyone else could fight of anything the raw eggs gave us...

But with us getting so many anti biotics now, not just from doc, but in our food...our immune system isnt what it used to be...

How many of you have had to have a 2nd or stronger course of anti biotics because the first lot didnt work? We are loaded with them now and our immune systems have adjusted over the years...so they have little effect on us now.....

Just a thought

Maybe he just didnt want a runny omlette YUK!!!!

Or maybe there is a difference between raw and under cooked that affects bacteria?

Good point this if you keep it at fridge temp the bacteria multiplyvery slowly but heat it and the start to grow at a massive rate until the temperature is high enough to kill them. Normal cooking raises the temp high enough and quickly enough to stop this being an issue but if you were to cook a piece of chicken for a long while over a low heat and it wasnt hot through then ur asking for trouble
